From Rob Crank Photography today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BestOfOctober, bird capture/s you think is/are your best from October.
I love the determination of this pine sisken to winkle the last seeds from the sunflower head. Not flashy or dramatic, just hungry. 🌿

Maybe we just tell her every day is Binx Day?!

Another Steller's from yesterday evening. Just a few feet away from the first (see TL) in diffused light.

Still stunning in a softer way! #birds #becurious

Hooded Mergansers have to be my favorite among female birds - she holds her own with the flashy males. From January 2025 🌿

Last Steller's for this morning!

Scruffy here is the last juvie of 2026! Still doesn't have full blue brows and it's nearly November!

2026 was a banner year for nesting Steller's for sure. In my yard at least! #birds #becurious

I'm not *super* fluent in Steller's Jay - so I didn't understand all of his speech - but I'm 100% voting for him!

Corvids Are Pretty Cheeky, Too
In a couple of recent posts (here and here), I've been amazed at how smart Corvids -- ravens, crows, and magpies -- can be. It turns out they can be pretty cheeky, too. As we walk the dogs in the morning, my husband has taken to listening for the cawing of crow, ravens or magpies -- if they are too raucous, he starts looking for the raptor that they are harassing.
