Today we mourn the trans ppl we have lost. The way trans ppl are being treated rn is unacceptable. If you think trans ppl are the problem, you’re being lied to. 🏳️‍⚧️💜🏳️‍⚧️
A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of three orange spotted squids wearing trans flag clothing and holding a candlelight vigil. The squid in front is my OC, Bela Lugosquid, mourning their lost trans friends, a tear in their eye. Bela is wearing their signature costume based on the 1931 movie Dracula, but wearing their purple-lined (instead of red) black opera cloak, a purple bow tie, and a white waistcoat. Bela is wearing a medal ribbon in the trans flag colours (light blue, light pink, white, light pink, light blue in horizontal stripes), but instead of a medal, a spiny Black Sea urchin is holding onto a gold ring. The sea urchin is also sad. Bela has their tentacles crossed over their heart. The two squids behind Bela, one on each side, are holding magic candles that glow underwater. The left squid is wearing a trans flag scarf, and has their tentacles over their mouth, eyes closed, weeping, holding their purple candle in one arm. The squid on the right has a large ribbon sash in the trans flag colours tied in a bow around their neck. Their eyes are closed, they are holding their purple candle in a tentacle and weeping. The sea around them is a deep lavender blue with silver dots and gold hearts floating in the water. Top right, a white square sign edged with gold says “Transgender Day of Remembrance 2025”, with cursive lettering underneath that says “for all trans ppl silenced by hate.”. This is a day both Bela and I take seriously. We remember the trans people lost this year, and every year.

Waugh! I whacked my left knee last night, slid in the mud and landed on my left hip and arm, and I’ve been dropping stuff all day. I fear working on anything more complicated.

Squid Games (not the show). #sketchaday #artsky #artbluesky #bluskyart #art #belalugosquid
An ink and pencil drawing of two squids. The squid in front (left bottom) is looking at their phone, with a bored expression on their face. They are holding the phone in one tentacle, and poking at it with an arm. Behind them, the other squid (top right) is wearing a cloak they have spread wide with two of their arms, like the famous* pose of Bela Lugosi in Dracula (1931), their mouth (with fangs) is wide open, their eyes are open as wide as possible, and they are tapping the front squid on the shoulder with one of their tentacles, as if to scare them. The front squid is saying “yeah, it wasn’t funny the last ten times, and it’s not funny now, “Bela”.” (Imagine them using two arm tips to make air quotes when they say Bela). A small square top left has the text “SQUID GAMES”. *Okay, I remembered the footnote this time. “The famous pose” is a joke; no one except old people remember Bela Lugosi. Aurora did a model kit in the 1950s (Bob, who is a Boomer, had Frankenstein, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and The Phantom of the Opera), and Stephen King has a character who builds the kits in “Salem’s Lot”, but I’m guessing not that many people have read it. You should; it’s actually pretty good, as is the David Soul movie. Y’know, for an old 1979 movie. I liked it.

Okay. Meltdown in the morning, hurting leg bad enough to keep me home from a party in the afternoon. I started this drawing promptly, but it took a while. #sketchaday #artsky #artbluesky #blueskyart #art #belalugosquid #nosferawwwwtu

They meet!
“…whoah.”
“Whoah”: A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of an aquarium (there is a sign drawn at the top that says “AQUARIUM” and I am not good at lettering), with a tank on the right side, and the outside of the tank (non-tank? Aquarinot?) on the left. The (pale peach with brown and grey spots) squid named Bela Lugosquid is in the tank, staring with awe, and reaching out one tentacle to touch the glass. Bela is wearing their Dracula* costume, black cloak with red lining flowing out behind them. On the other side of the glass stands Nosferawwwwtu, a green vampire-like creature/character with long scary fingers, sunken eyes, and pointed ears, dressed in their classic dark grey robe with ragged wide sleeves. The floor is green, the wall is teal blue, and an inked, but not coloured poster on the far left wall says “Innsmouth-born SQUIDS!”, and has a squid-like drawing with spiral curls for tentacles. Over the poster is a label that says “New! NIGHT HOURS!!”. In the right top background of the tank is a smiling great white shark, and just below them, squid tentacles and arms are disappearing off the page, like another squid has run off. *Based on Bela Lugosi’s costume in Dracula (1931), except instead of a medal, Bela Lugosquid is wearing a spiny Black Sea urchin.

QRP w/ your fave OC(s)!

Mine are Bela Lugosquid, The Mouse Prophet & The Watchers (counts as one, b/c reasons), the Alien Brain, & the Basket Creature (who does not yet have a name, and is out of their basket)(eek!)! 😃💜💜💜💜💜💜
A marker, ink, paint pen and paper collage drawing of my OC, Bela Lugosquid, a common squid, pale pink-grey with red and grey spots, facing left slightly, asleep. They are smiling (yes, I know, that’s not where their mouths are), and are wearing a pair of fake fangs, a black cloak with a red lining, white bow tie and vest, white shirt, and a red ribbon with a spiny Black Sea urchin attached to the ribbon by holding onto a gold ring. Basically, dressed like Bella Lugosi’s famous outfit* in Dracula (1931). Their tentacles and arms are drifting gently, with an arm on the right touching the edge of the cloak. Dream bubbles coming from their head feature an image of Bella Lugosi as Dracula from the movie poster (image sourced from IMDb.com). Bela Lugosquid is non-binary. They are fascinated by vampire squid, but too shy to actually talk to any actual vampire squid (and afraid of negative reactions). They are a very happy squid. They have dreams of stardom. I don’t know about the sea urchin; they usually don’t go that deep. *Of course that outfit is famous! Everyone saw that movie in theaters, right? We’re all immortal, right? …right? Just me, then. A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of The Mouse Prophet (TMP) scolding The Watchers (TW) for breaking TMP’s Smiting mug. TMP is a human skeleton with a proportionate mouse skull for a head, dressed in a green and teal robe with gold edged green irised sentient eyes down the front of the robe and along the cuffs. The eyes are all staring at TW (except for the bottom one, which is rolling itself). TMP also has a gold halo with decorative rays around their head. They are holding a piece of paper, and look annoyed, saying “‘If it’s fixed, we break it’? So, which one of you broke my coffee mug?”. TW are faceless robed creatures with gold hands and mouse ear bumps on their hoods. They are standing on the left; one is looking nervously up at TMP, and saying “erm…”. There is a broken coffee mug at that one’s feet. The other is behind the first, holding up a large yellow sign that says “GUILTY!!”. The sign has a large red arrow pointing at the first one’s hood. Underneath is written “It’s all fun and games until SOMEONE loses a cup.”. (This is a callback to a drawing where one of The Watchers delivers TMP their morning coffee in a cup that says “this is my smiting mug”.) Background is tan ground with a deep blue night sky filled with stars. A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of my OC, The Sad Alien Brain, a brown brain-like creature with long nerve-like fibers hanging down, floating in a tall glass tank filled with fluorescent greenish-yellow fluid, reading a book to their Axolotl-like attendants. The brain is wearing a pair of gold glasses, and is holding a red book in their long pink neuronal wire fibers. The book is “Paul Clifford” by Edward Bulwer-Lytton, which is the book that starts with the famous line “It was a dark and stormy night.”. The Axolotls are pink, with brighter pink gills and darker pink spots on their bodies, and they are wearing blue overalls, with their tails sticking out of a hole in the back. They are all sitting, cross-legged, in a half-circle around the front of the Brain’s tank, holding books, and smiling at the brain. They all have huge black oval eyes with light points, and their noses are reflecting the yellow-green of the tank lights (they’re shiny!). One Axolotl, on the right, is staring at their book, which is upside down. Oops! Behind the tank is the cavern wall, in the shadows; on the left, is a bucket, and mop leaning against a red lettered poster that says “KNOW YOUR CLEANING FLUID!”, with a picture of a cartoon Axolotl at the top right, and a red “NO!” over a bottle of ammonia next to a bottle of bleach (don’t mix these!). On the right of the tank, there is a barrel of “Industrial Glass Cleaner”, but the label is partially turned so that the first two letters in “glass” are not visible. This was done by my OCs, The Watchers (small interdimensional mouse-like creatures in robes, whose faces are not visible), one of whom has their head propped on their elbows, leaning on the barrel. The other Watcher is peeking out from behind the left side of the barrel. Above them is a white poster with blue lettering and a pink border that says “BOOK CLUB! Tuesdays! Read along with the BRAIN.”. This is a very silly drawing, and a very long alt text. A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of my OC, the Basket Creature, a horrible Victorian toy based on a creature inside a basket held by an automaton. It is a bunny, or a lamb, or whatever; it’s beige fur with pink ears and a fluffy whiteish tail. It has huge eyes with green irises and pinpoint pupils, and a beak-like head that has a permanently open mouth with a pink tongue hanging out. The basket creature has been caught in the light of an open door, frozen in the act of playing “pretty unicorn princess”, holding a wand topped by a gold star in their shapeless paws, and wearing a pointed purple party hat held on with elastic. Their dark enlarged shadow is on the red carpet and the non-matching red wall of the basement to the right. The door was slowly closed, and everyone agreed they would never speak of this again. “MAAAAAAAAAH!” echoed faintly from the basement.
