L'ombre du bateau Valence, 1903 Sorolla prend pour motif principal l'ombre projetée d'un bateau demeuré hors champ qui s'étire sur le sable. Il relègue à l'arrière-plan les deux fillettes en blanc et la fine silhouette rouge. Le contraste entre les ombres violettes et la clarté du sable lui permet de structurer sa composition et de renforcer l'effet de perspective dans cette vue de plage, lui conférant un caractère moderne et inédit.
