As wildfires scorch LA, I find myself thinking a lot about this piece that the great @BenEhrenreich wrote just over 6 years ago. It haunts me in a deep and painful way—another unheeded warning that was, itself, an echo of so many other unheeded warnings.

Things repeat, but they repeat before the original event. The reflection precedes the image. These metaphors don’t quite get me there, but that’s the only way I can understand what happened that day.

Are you ready to learn why nonviolence has become irrelevant in #Palestine?

Apparently @BenEhrenreich wasn't when he went there to write this.
Late last year, @Harpers sent me to the West Bank to report on the state of the nonviolent resistance movement. Nothing I had seen over more than a decade of reporting there prepared me for the levels of fear and devastation I encountered.
