Oh man I forgot about Half Life! I would have put that in mine instead of Hollow Knight if I had remembered! Ooh yes I loved Dark Alliance, C&C Generals, BFME, The Suffering, Bioshock, DMC and Golden Axe!

The STALKER scene did this. Many community mega-mods and fangames are entirely standalone, despite often having large chunks of the original trilogy in there.
But in that case, the devs gave their approval. In the case of BFME, they're doing it beneath the Sauron-like glare of EA & Tolkien's Estate
