bfme2 especially really leaned heavy into making base building fun imo

and base building heavy focus is still kinda lacking in the current rts revival. aoe4 is the only one to do it afaict. AoM caps towers and walls. tempest rising, stormgate etc focus on gameplay and micro and build order

Randomly specific game request: games where there's a meta strategy mode/campaign where the primary gameplay mode's maps/levels/gameplay parameters are dictated by the strategy. Examples would be SW Battlefront 2 Galactic Conquest mode, Dawn of War Dark Crusade, LOTR BFME2 War of the Ring mode
