Flattening the Connectome Spectrum: A Spectral Filter for FC Induces a Pretraining Target for fMRI Encoders
Self-supervised pretraining reshaped prediction in language and vision, and brain foundation models (BFMs) inherited its promise. Representations learned from large unlabelled corpora should capture individual functional dynamics and generalise across cohorts. However, kernel ridge regression (KRR)…

Coincidentally, the topic for my master's seminar next week is Death and Grief in Primates.
I've seen several chimp mothers carry around their little dead infants; it is very sad. But the most painful to watch reaction was from a colobus monkey mother, Ophelia, at BFMS in Ghana.

At Bossou, Guinea, a chimpanzee mother carried her dead infant for 68 days. A new analysis of 83 cases finds how long mothers carry can be explained without assuming they know death is final. #Primatology #Chimps #HumanEvolution www.primatology.net/p/why-chimpa...
Why Chimpanzee Mothers Carry Dead Infants Up to 126 Days
Across 83 cases of infant corpse carrying, nothing about how long chimpanzee and bonobo mothers carry requires them to know death is permanent.

BFMTrack: Latent Sequence Optimization for Physics-Based Motion Tracking with Behavioral Foundation Models
Kavli Affiliate: David Muller | Summary:Behavioral Foundation Models (BFMs) offer a promising path toward universal physics-based character control by organizing a rich repertoire of physically plausible behaviors into a latent space, guided by a large-scale motion dataset. While these models excel at time-invariant tasks, such as goal-reaching and state-based reward optimization, their latent space does […]
