Who the culprit might be is easy to guess. Arguing with Astarion to get him to admit to his misdeeds, however, is quite amusing and free entertainment for the other companions after a long day of dealing with druids and refugee diplomatics. The day ends on a light-hearted note for most companions and a new friend in their midst. Hours later, in the middle of the night, a nightmare escalates things into an unexpected disaster that almost cost Astarion his life, and D'ylân almost his hand. “I…wasn’t going to hurt you!” He stared at Durge without acknowledging the mixed glares around him. Some hostile. Some curious. Some worried. “I just needed…well…” He looked down, his hands shaking, as he cowered as if to prepare himself for the blows to come. “Blood,” Wyll spat out. “A vampire, right in our midst. A cunning beast controlled by nothing but its hunger for blood and power.” “Wait.” Gale gestured at Lae’zel and Wyll, asking them not to draw their weapons yet. He had cleaned Durge’s hand where the D'ylân had bitten him and just finished dressing the wound with a clean handkerchief. Naturally, someone as cultured as Gale of Waterdeep had an uncounted number of clean handkerchiefs on him, even in his casual nightrobes. He wiped his hands clean with a third one and, after a last look at Durge to make sure Durge was as alright as was reasonable to expect, Gale straightened to face Astarion. And the ones who waited for a reason to draw a blade through his heart. “Let him speak before we do anything that cannot be taken back. Who was your last victim? When was the last time you killed someone?” “Killed?” He chuckled nervously. “Someone? I don’t kill for food, not people. I feed on animals, like boars, deer, kobolds…Whatever I can get.
