I live in a bicultural, bilingual, and biracial family. As parents, we assume my wife's culture and our child belongs to her family and identifies with her culture. I'm just fine with this, and I'm happy to provide our kiddo's free choice.

The Trudeaus and Martin are sort of genuinely bilingual bicultural elite figures in a way that complicates things. Mulroney was from a small boat-access mining port in Northern Quebec and had excellent French. Turner it seems had quite good french

Language contact between English and Spanish isn’t "sloppy". Code-switching is a sophisticated skill that shows intuitive mastery of both languages. Spanglish isn’t a sign of language loss. It’s a vibrant expression of bicultural identity.

I hope you don’t see my questions as doubling down. I am bicultural (UK born, US immigrant) and sometimes I find the different perspectives confusing. Jay is very much not alone in finding the slogan hilarious, a lot of people do. In the UK. And yeah, this could well because of racism.

My Latine-coded OCs, Mihra and Koana's children: Minawi (Mina), Kowe, and Kaaya.

Born in Tuliyollal, they're half Hhetsarro/Turali and half Gyr Abanian. Though their family is bicultural, they lean more toward their Turali side. I like to draw from my own Mexican heritage when writing about them. 🫶
