WE DON'T NEED PETROLEUM-BASED PLASTICS ANYMORE!

"The [bamboo plastic] outperforms most commercial plastics and bioplastics in mechanical and thermo-mechanical metrics while maintaining full biodegradability in soil within 50 days and closed-loop recyclability with 90% retained strength."

Biodegradability is not a bug, it's a feature.
The trick is to make it possible only when you want it to happen.

So small biz artists got mad when it was pointed out that maybe we shouldn’t do so much plastic merch in charms and such?

One of the things I’ve considered about my future shop was the recyclability/biodegradability of stuff I produce, even if I’m not a huge corp, I wanna be conscious of this.

We don't need to use petroleum-based plastic anymore.

Just a guess, but I think it would be less impactful than the micro plastics. I don’t know the biodegradability of acetaminophen, though.

Deal on making detergents greener and safer for people!

The new EU rules on detergents and surfactants agreed today will:
💧 boost biodegradability
ℹ️ improve product information
🚫 forbid animal testing

Researchers in #ScienceAdvances have created an engineered living material based on a filamentous fungus.

The material can regenerate its surface, self-clean, and integrate engineered microbial “partners” that can color the material or provide it with UV protection. https://scim.ag/4bY0PUG

I think that we should return to the way things were packaged in the 60s: cardboard and glass. Fully recyclable and either biodegradable or it turns into sea glass. And who doesn’t love sea glass?

If it can’t be packaged in cardboard or glass, require full biodegradability or ACTUAL recycling.

Scientists have developed a groundbreaking 🆕 type of living textile made from fungal #mycelium that remains alive after it’s manufactured.

Unlike traditional mycelium-based materials, these engineered textiles retain living #FungalCells

This allows them to sense their environment, self-renew,

Easily solved if politicians stop listing to industry and do what is right for the people. Completely ban single use plastics, mandate biodegradability for every kind of packaging. Mandate repairability and local recycling for consumer goods.
