The end of plastic gets a step closer with this invention, a replacement for food packaging film, made from plants not oil and therefore doesn't hang around, polluting the planet for thousands of years - it just biodegrades. Nice.

Vegetarians & vegans obv have strong reasons for avoiding leather. But for omnivores, it’s a far better environmental choice than plastic-derived products. I may get shouted at for this, but I’d say the same for some fur that is a byproduct of the meat industry (eg rabbit). At least it biodegrades.
Just buy actual leather and cashmere, as they will last 10-30 years and are, in fact, not made of plastic.
ah, I see "vegan leather" (a petroleum product, AKA plastic) has been joined by "vegan cashmere" (a petroleum product, AKA fuzzy plastic)

Wear wool. It’s repairable, it actually does wash (polyester is oleophilic, it grabs body oils and the bacteria in them, which is why it comes to stink no matter how much it gets washed), and when it’s worn beyond repair, it biodegrades or can be used for felt or stuffing. And sheep need haircuts.
