Best no kill way to keep squirrels, rats, mice etc off birdtable is to mix bird feed with hottest chili flakes (not powder) can find. Birds don't have taste receptors for chili unlike squirrels rats, mice etc. Quickly learn the food causes pain so stay away.

Just had to scoop up a big ol' dead crow and dispose of it. Right in the middle of the pavement in my street. Clearly been there all day.

Amount of folks who must have walked past and gone "AWW POOR BIRD. Ah well...somebody else's problem."

I'mma get a birdtable to honour poor Crowseph properly.

EBay? It’d be a shame to chuck them out, and they’re a little niche for charity shops. Or give them to friends? When Bruce Montgomery died, friends were given little items. Philip Larkin got his cigarette lighter. He said it was like being given Francis of Assisi’s birdtable.

The birds are lovely in the garden this morning even if I am stuck in bed again. A male and female blackbird, Kevin of course and a robin flying between the plum blossom and the bird table. The female blackbird took one of the less than best grapes from the birdtable like she was shoplifting!

Things I did today instead of doomscrolling
1. Cut the wood for a new birdtable
2. Moved furniture around
3. Chatted to a friend
4. Joyscrolled for 10 minutes (iykyk)
5. Made gnocchi

Today’s #garden visitor picking through what’s left on the homemade #birdtable 😊🐿️🤎

(We don’t mind, as they often go for the things from the bird food, the actual birds aren’t so keen on).

Previous hanging wooden #birdtable met its demise in the wind and the rain 😳
New budget metal one arrived and installed 😃
Hopefully happy #birds now 🐦‍⬛

Good morning! A fine day, but cold. I have put out some ground feed, but the birdtable and the hanging feeder have still got food from yesterday.

A selection of blackbirds with a mouthful. The last one is trying to us it as camouflage I think.

Bonjour toots. ☕

Nothing urgent planned for this autumnal morning so may continue reading my book for a while (one of the Karen Pirie series) before getting stuck in to some serious weeding. I'll disturb the garden baubles visiting the birdtable if I start now.

Have a good Thursday, all.

Similar injuries to Joe, different circumstances. Was attempting to carefully remove a Hornet from the trap when it flew straight at my headtorch. I of course recoiled spinning on my heels and ran straight into the birdtable, became entagled in the base and ended up face down into the grass... 🤕

There is a feast of last nights fried rice and some stale cornflakes on the bird table today #bird #birdtable #MyFirstBirdOfTheDay

Good morning from my wildflower patch. Luckily the poppies seem to be withstanding the lack of rain. ✨

The NHBS Guide to Maintaining Bird Tables and Feeders
A bird table is a great way to provide supplementary food sources to local bird species, especially during harsh winter months, and offers a delightful window into the lives of our local birdlife. Late stroll. Someone’s left an illuminated motorbike helmet askew in the sky. A telegraph pole proudly displays knots of wooden authenticity. The setting spotlight through trees creates a meandering river of light along the path. A large pigeon pecks a small birdtable.

This was a lovely moment from last summer.

Pigeons as a domesticated species thrown out & abandoned. This one remembered.
