Beaded, interlacing stems are clasped together.
From a distance, the folded leaves look like little birds. Once you see it, you won't unsee it. Beauty of #ornament.

Fragments of the medieval pavement mosaic of Taranto Cathedral, maybe related to the one at Otranto and fragments at Brindisi and Bitonto.
Looks like a horn-blowing centaur and a rider on a camel (note the bits of an inscription too).

23.11.1859: Im italienische Bitonto wird Gennaro Rubino geboren. Aufgrund von Armut und Arbeitslosigkeit lässt er sich vom Geheimdienst anheuern, um Anarchist*innen auszuforschen, wird aber entlassen, als seine Sympathie mit seinen Zielen rauskommt. Dann wird er geoutet - und zieht los zum König.
15.11.1902: In Belgien versucht der italienische Anarchist Gennaro Rubino, den von einer Prozession zurückkehrenden belgischen König Leopold II. zu töten, doch die drei Kugeln verfehlen ihr Ziel. Er stirbt 1918 im Knast.
