Led a guided walk at RSPB Lakenheath fen this morning. Whooper Swans back, 2 Bitterns in flight, Red Kite, Marsh Harriers, Kestrels, Buzzards, 2 Kingfishers, Great White Egrets, Stonechats, Reed Bunting plus a variety of ducks were enjoyed by all. #Birds!

A Jack snipe & 2 Bitterns were on the Main lake,
The juvenile Pectoral sandpiper, 3 Ruff & Whooper swan, plus 4 fly over Ruffs were about Crossland's lake,
4 Black-tailed godwits on the Village lake, with 50 Curlews about the reserve,
Also, Green sandpipers on Island lake & East Holm

An american bittern! This is one of the more cryptic heron species due to its various shades of browns, and hiding amongst the grasses in its wetland habitats. Ridgefield NWR Black-crowned night heron. Phoenix, AZ Great Egret (with the fun alpha code of GREG) Steigerwald Lake NWR Snowy Egrets Okay, I need to make an effort to get back to these guys next breeding season. Yes they have really pretty feathers, BUT they make the most ridiculous sounds!!!! And I haven't really been able to find a good example of it on the internet. San Diego Safari Park

Today's Spirit Guide is Heron! 😄

These carnivorous birds have 64 species with some called Egrets or Bitterns. They're adapted to coastal waters with adaptations such as specialized vertebrate to strike for fish. Spiritually, it represents grace, precision, and dignity.

there's a nature reserve near me with green herons, blue herons, and bitterns, and I'm mildly disappointed i haven't gotten the green heron yet
but the least bittern is equally if not more weird potato guy, they're great

Barn owls, Barn Swallows, Bitterns and Buzzards

I had a great few days in September photographing birds and wildlife in Norfolk especially barn owls. This is a more distant shot of one of the owls in a tree facing an adjacent meadow from where it flew off into the distance but thankfully returned a bit later. I’ve posted a photo of these young barn swallows perched on a lighting wire previously and have more that I haven’t yet processed. It was a pleasure to spend time with them and watch their busy parents feed them repeatedly. Over at my local nature reserve I’ve been lucky to observe and photograph some of the bitterns during September and arguably more than ever before. This bittern in flight changed reed beds and gave me a chance to grab some photos as it flew from right to left in front of some trees. I’ve photographed buzzards in Norfolk and locally during September and this shot of a buzzard with its wings wide open and from below was above a meadow in Norfolk.
