…society behind some cowboy myth of rugged boostrap individualism until they convinced enough people that helping someone else hurt you; what the “other” got was taken away from what you should get. We can’t lose that idea we have of society & community, that when one individual is lifted up, we…

joining @danabra.mov fight. let's swap discover to a for you like feed. it allows us to better connect with others. it doesn't work well during boostrap but given the current discover experience for a fresh account, just default to a for you feed seeded with cat pics until there are enough likes

thanks for making bsky such a better tool to find and connect with others spacecowboy. your work on the for you feed is helping us big time to do organic outreach and let people aligned with us discover our projects and join our communities. i don't think npmx would have scaled as it did without it
Here is a very rough version of the For You Stats dashboard: linklonk.com/foryou

It shows you 3 things:
- how much you've been using For You
- how many views and likes your posts got in For You
- how your likes/reposts helped surface posts to other people in For You

Feedback welcome

definitely the funniest form of this: I hated autoconf so wrote rust's configure in "plain posix sh" like with shell functions etc. a bunch of that got cribbed to rustup's sh bootstrap which has then been cribbed _everywhere_ like uv and lean's boostrap and whatever, the code totally escaped the lab

You were a tree, growing tall to catch the sunlight and deep to drink of the earth's water, then you were another tree, and another, but then you were an evil tree, and were cursed to become human. So were a lot of other people, not me, I worked my way up from rocks boostrap style

This is confluence of two things:
1. Fucking prosperity doctrine
2. By-your-own-Boostrap mentality

If you're poor your not working hard enough, or your not godly enough. It follows that the poor must be punished more than helped.

God forbid we follow doctrine and just help the poor.

I'm actually working on a research project on what elements and compounds are required to boostrap up terrestrial biochemistry, and sure enough, many carbonaceous chondritic meteorites have most or all of the ingredients. It's not surprising that microbes set up shop on the samples so quickly
I wrote about all this in my newsletter a few days ago.

Podcasts and conferences are creating starter packs with their guests and speakers. These are already carefully curated, so they work great to boostrap an account. Probably a stretch, but it would be cool if you could add meta to each account (url? expandable post?) linking to the episodes and talks

Love people who see something that is clearly a societal problem that can only be solved on a large, public scale and go "well why don't you just boostrap a bit harder"
Time to move. Or get a better career.

its a lot more wordy than boostrap but it’s still less of a pain to remember and write than plain css/scss/sads imo

How do babies and blind people learn to localise sound without labelled data? We propose that innate mechanisms can provide coarse-grained error signals to boostrap learning. New preprint from @yang-chu.bsky.social. 🤖🧠🧪

Learning spatial hearing via innate mechanisms
The acoustic cues used by humans and other animals to localise sounds are subtle, and change during and after development. This means that we need to constantly relearn or recalibrate the auditory spa...

36 - A única coisa que me deixa triste é que o Boostrap ainda não implementou a API de @\use e @\forward, se tivesse seria possível customizar os componentes diretamente no import:

```scss
@use 'boostrap/button' with (
$black: #222,
$border-radius: 0.1rem
);
```

Conservatives like to view themselves as rugged individualists, its why they don't believe in social programs, believe in tough on crime policies, boostrap mentality etc. You're really out of your depth here.

Yes! Or one more paradigm to consider that is drastically different from my current choice, one more simulation to check the accuracy of a method (during which accuracy of boostrap confidence intervals frequently disappoints), one more doubt about the scope of interactions, … #stats #statistics

A new release of the mgcv #RStats 📦 is out on CRAN and Simon Wood (U Edinburgh) has added some significant new features despite the small bump in version number:

🌟 scasm() for estimating GAMs with shape constrained smooths. Can be used with any family & smoothness selection is via the EFS method

Boostrap theory and Pygmalion lion effect are like survival of the fittest rationalizing.

This is just a small blip of carbon emissions in the process of getting AI to boostrap itself and the rest of us to abundance.

I need folks to stop worrying about dystopian futures and realize suburbs were the ultimate sign we've been in it for decades.

We should have done connected micro-villiages but they had to establish control & kill community with nuclear families and boostrap mentality.

We can change it all tho.
