Maggie Macdonald bringing home harvested bracken near #Arisaig, very early 20th century. Bracken, when cut green, was primarily used as winter bedding for animals. Cut later, it could be used as thatch for a roof or as a fuel, with the ash then used as a fertiliser

1. A grisly discovery, the skeleton of a cow, lost in bracken on Dartmoor. I was trying to find a path, dodging bog & then spotted its white ribcage. It might have only been there 3 months (Aug, Sept, Oct) as decomposition happens fast in summer & autumn. The pile of shit is its exploded stomachs 😳
