The Breac Maodhóg
This c.11th century reliquary features bronze plaques with wonderfully detailed figures of men and women, likely to represent saints or clerics.
You can see it in the National Museum of Ireland, on display next to its leather satchel. I love the slightly fed up looking figure!

I didn't get far on my river walk this morning before bumping into Breac, the male kestrel. I spent 30 mesmerising minutes with him - here's one of the photos I took, more will inevitably follow.

The manuscript of the week is RIA MS 23 P 16, Leabhar Breac. Written in Irish by Murchadh Riabach Ó Cuindlis, at Cluain Lethan and Lothra (Lorrha) in Múscraige Tíre, in north Co. Tipperary, it is the largest Irish vellum manuscript by one scribe.
