Like VWs and Hondas of the era, it's very easy to mix and match powertrains in old FWD Peugeots.
The XU9J4 is an easy swap into the 205 GTI, and substantially more powerful than the stock lump. There are almost certainly more XU9J4s running around in those than in the cars that they were built for!
