• Box Hill is only 14km from CBD. Bundoora 15km. Broadmeadows 17km.
Sydney's Bankstown Metro is 21km out, spawning high-rise.
• Every 'world city' has an orbital metro. Some have many.
• Cancelling or even pausing SRL now would be economic vandalism, throwing tens of billions of $ down the toilet.

The plan for #Melbourne airport rail via Sunshine/Albion predates the Coalition's 2014 announcement; it's has been preferred since November 2001 under the Bracks ALP govt - though at that time they didn't want to build it, they only reserved land for it. web.archive.org/web/20081004...
A comprehensive patronage study has found that a rail link to Melbourne Airport would not be commercially viable for at least ten years, Transport Minister Peter Batchelor said today. Mr Batchelor said the Government had therefore decided to reserve land for a rail link through the Albion Corridor, but would not proceed with construction of the rail link at this stage. ... In November, the Government abandoned the Broadmeadows route for the link and committed to further investigate the Albion corridor options, as recommended by an independent planning panel.

The Broadmeadows idea was better when it was possible in the 1970's. Now, a lot of worry will occur.

The SRL will still intersect with other existing passenger rail lines.

The arc becoming too big is actually Daniel Andrews' legacy (population growth areas).

I'm not against densification.

The SRL crossover point should still be at Broadmeadows, the closest point to the airport.

You also want the SRL to intersect with as many other existing passenger rail lines as possible.

If it's too far north, the arc becomes too big.

Are you against the densification of existing suburbia?

It would be useful to have the airport rail connection intersect with the existing Craigieburn Line, and Broadmeadows is the closest to the airport.

If it intersects too much further north it means the new line must be longer and more expensive. And further away from the city means less can use it.
