A series of 6 digitally sketched headshots for characters for a prospective project called Escape From Hell’s Aisles (yes, the spelling of “aisle’s” is deliberate). Riven: The first character is a blond white androgynous kid with bright teal eyes and a stern, determined expression. They are wearing a high-necked blue tunic with no sleeves. Carric: The next character (to the right) is a purple-skinned Tartarun woman with several short horns and blue eyes. She looks vaguely worried about something. She is wearing a purple scarf and gray armor. There is a dark scar on her right cheek and above her eye. Ambrose: The third character (down and to the left) is a dog man with brown fur, a big red flannel, and a pauldron on one shoulder. “Dave:” The fourth character is a white, red (orange) haired man with green eyes and sideburns. He is wearing a blue tunic like the Riven’s, in addition to dark blue overalls. Mable: The fifth character is a red-skinned woman with graying green hair and glowing green eyes. She is wearing some kind of shoulder holster, and red version of the long-sleeved tunic Dave wears. “Will:” The last character is a brown man with long, curly black hair pulled into a high ponytail. He is wearing a mask that covers half his face. He has glowing red-purple eyes, and is wearing another kind of shoulder holster, in addition to shoulder pauldrons.

A digital illustration showing two characters with a clear power imbalance between them. One character, Nathan Shasear / First Councilman Shas, is displayed as being much larger than the other character, Ev Stark. Nathan is in a half-face version of the usual porcelain Councilman mask, as well as a metal four-pronged crown that sort of acts as a partial helmet with bits down each side of his face and protection around the back of his head. He's also wearing a blue cape and a three-section pauldron on his left shoulder, which faces the audience. He's grinning with an air of smug, prideful satisfaction as his raised hand dangles strings of control magic around Ev, demonstrating how they are his puppet in the narrative - and literally, due to the influence of control magic. Ev is depicted as being smaller than Nathan, nearly consumed by his cape, and is bracing against a countertop of some kind as they clutch at their head. Their left eye is covered, which seems to be a trend in my art (symbolically, I think the meaning is going to be that they're left-eye dominant so that's their shooting eye when they're doing assassin work for Shas. It works; they're ambidextrous). Ev is wearing formal clothes, including a partly shear undershirt with a boob (clavicle/upper chest) window and a draping blue over-shirt than covers their left arm in one big drooping sleeve. They have faint red strings of magic around their wrists and neck, and Shasear's sigil is hovering over their chest. It is heavily implied that Ev can feel when Shas takes over their mind, and actively tries to resist it.

false comic cover for Fractal Alliances

I had a lot of fun with this one, which started out just as a reference exercise doodle :P

#illustration #art #brokendimensions
A digital illustration of two characters in armor standing on a grassy cliff edge overlooking a vast expanse of lowlands. A title in a dark font sits in the top left corner: "Fractal Alliances - Little Golden Age (1994-2006)." The title references a section in the Fractal Alliances anthology (which currently exists primarily as a very big outline). The two characters are Ev Stark and Fin Heran. Ev, with short-cropped hair in this illustration, is in blue, red, and gray Aetherian armor. THey are also holding a standard-issue blaster, and have two hilts sticking out of their back holster (they're non-specific because they're Magically Concealed Weapon (MCW) hilts). Ev is standing behind Fin, mostly facing the valley, but they have their face turned to look over Fin's shoulder at him. Fin is wearing standard medium-level Talkian armor, which comes in shades of brown and metallic gray, detailed with Talkian red. While Ev is in full armor, covered from the neck down, Fin's armor leaves his arms mostly bare except for arm bands and vambraces. He is holding a sword in one hand, which is lowered towards the ground, and in his raised hand there is a simple gray blaster. He has another sword strapped to his back. Fin's hair is also on fire, as it is prone to doing. The color palette of this piece is a mix of purples, pinks, and oranges. It feels vaguely like a shot taken at sunset.

#ocs #brokendimensions #pride
A digital illustration of two characters in the same hoodie, with notes indicating different things. One character, Fin heran, has a long forked tail, tan skin, facial hair, pointed ears, and short brown hair that turns to fire at the tips. He also has a visible snake tattoo on his right leg. He is wearing blue boxer briefs and a black and white hoodie with a lamp-shaped band logo (fictional) on the front. Around him are the trans and bisexual flags. The other character, Ev Stark, is a shade or so lighter than Fin, covered in scars, and has an undercut that exposes their natural brown hair. The rest of their hair, tied back in a bun, fades from brown at the roots to white, then to orange at the tips. Ev is wearing the same hoodie, a pair of red boxers, and red socks with yellow stars on them. Ev also has the achillean gay/mlm flag beside them (their gender is complicated and unlabeled, but they associate themselves most with being a man). Both characters have whisps of colorful pinkish magic wrapping around them. The page is titled "Fin + Ev's Hoodie," and the notes around them say "one of them bought it at a Lampshade Hero concert in 1999, but they have since forgotten who." Another note says "they swap the hoodie back and forth often (and fuck in it, sometimes)." Other notes point out Ev's cozy socks, Fin's magic stabilization jewelry, and the fact that the two are wearing each other's boxers in addition to "their" hoodie. The same image as previous, but with notes removed.

fractal alliances - comic # 6

The aforementioned finished FA comic! This one doesn’t have a date but bc of Ev’s comfortability to even do this, it’s probably the 2030s. Fin’s coffee addiction, on the other hand, is consistent throughout the series 🤣

#brokendimensions #ocs #comic #art
A digitally drawn comic about a character with short hair, armor, some facial hair (sideburns, sort of a goatee), and occasionally wings and his addiction to coffee. The comic is 4 panels long and is set in a square format. In panel 1, the focal character, Fin Heran, is pouring himself a coffee (or rather, pouring an obscene amount of creamer into his coffee) while looking through several hologram screens. His cup has a meter drawn on the side indicating at what level he can function properly. The text box for this page says: “Fin Heran LIVES on coffee.” In panel 2, Fin has shapeshifted and his wings and horns are visible. The text box here reads: “It keeps him sane, and he doesn’t do well without it.” (Referring, of course, to the coffee.) He is crouched irritably on a bench (presumably in a sparring area) beneath a sign that says “Tritaran Timeout Bench,” which implies he’s not the only Tritaran with a short temper hampered by a lack of caffeine. The third panel has no text box. It shows a wider view of Fin on the bench beneath the sigh, but his attention is diverted from his holoscreen to another character, Ev Stark, walking into the frame in a cropped workout shirt and short shorts, drinking from a water bottle. Fin has a little question mark above his head. In panel four, the text box supplies an addendum to the last comment on Fin’s functionality without coffee, saying: “…unless he finds a better pick-me-up.” The pick-me-up here being Ev, who is shown in the process of climbing into Fin’s lap, presumably with the intention of kissing him stupid. Fin has opened his wings and appears to be in the process of wrapping them around Ev as they climb onto him, and his tail has curled protectively around the back of their leg. The comic has a cool green and purple color scheme, and Fin;s orange holoscreens provide a nice contrast.

oh hey, by the way I finished that Ev and Talis illustration I kept teasing WIP pics of.

#art #characterart #brokendimensions
A digital illustration of two characters dancing together in a sensual manner, dressed in casual/club-wear with lots of bracelets and other accessories. The lighting is dark and moody, and is accented by their glowing hair (magic) and several bioluminescent plants in the background. One character, Talis Errison, has splotchy vitiligo and glowing teal hair made mostly of magic. He has curling blue-gray horns as well. His eyes are closed as he holds his partner close, mostly up on his hip, his mouth half-parted mid-breath. Talis is in an off-white sleeveless shirt with a blue jacket tied around his waist. The other character, Ev Stark, has tan skin and orange markings on their face and upper arms (the latter are barely visible). They are looking down at Talis with an intent expression, arm cast over his shoulder, legs around his waist as he holds them up. They look like they might kiss him. Ev is in a dark blue-black t-shirt and gray shorts, and the hem of their boxers is visible. Said boxer waistband reads "ANAL-lyze me," which is a sex joke. Ev also has blue tattoos one their fingers and the back of their hand, is wearing many earrings and necklaces, and has white hair that fades into orange magic at the ends. Ev also has a thought bubble that reads "oh fuck." Because they are, in fact, sooooo fucked. (They're head over heels for their second-in-command, when neither of them are even permitted to be in a relationship). The background is visibly plant-heavy, featuring a glowing iris-like plant and several bushes of goldfish plants with glowing orange blooms. There is ivy looping over their heads and a barely-visible dark stone backdrop. The context for this is that they have escaped to a specific sector of Aetheria's capital known for its clubbing scene, and have ended up in one of the Tartarun-inspired clubs, which are often VERY plant-focused. A similar image to the one previous, except it's just the two characters against a simple gradient background. The lighting values are a little less prominent (not as dark as the other version), but that is the only major difference.

A cropped section of a digital illustration showing a character with tan skin, eyes with black sclera and multicolored irises, and short hair with buzzed sides. The lower portion of their hair, which is buzzed, is brown. The fluffy upper pair fades from brown at the roots to white, then to orange at the tips. In this image, the character is holding a hand to their face with a fearful expression, concerned as they come to realize the nature of their, uh, life situation. There are strings of magic pulling at their hand, and part of the rest of the painting depicts scenes of war and destroyed buildings behind them. In this image, the character also has a hand to their face but it's a digital artwork drawn in a different style (2 years older). They are wearing armored gloves (fingerless), and again have strings pulling at their person, dictating their every move. A digital illustration of two character standing on an ethereal, grassland-like plain with a glowing door before them. One character is taller with black hair, a shimmering transparent cape, and a thin halo around their head. The other also has long hair, but is painted in more grayscale colors. The plain around them is painted in purples and blues, with glowing specks of light scattered throughout. The taller character (in this version) says “You don’t have to choose this.” The shorter one responds “I know.” The same painting without the word bubbles. Some more notes on the painting: brush strokes and stray hairs. Different layers of grass. Black marks on the taller character’s arms that become lighter the further up they go. The color sketch version of this piece, which is more monotone but wit the same strong values.

Antagonist concept art for Broken Dimensions: Fractal Alliances. The illustration shows a woman in armor and torn fabric standing at an odd angle. She has grand wings, but in addition to the fully feathered set, she also has 2 additional sets of inky black, molting, bony ghosts of wings. The same inky black shadows are creeping and winding up her disfigured legs and up her body as blue magic crackles across her arms like lightning. An inverted blue triangle (which is supposed to show her emblem but I didn’t draw it there) glows at the base of her throat. I’ve Rhea’s head is a ghostly blue halo or magic, as well as a pointed, triangular emblem (here) which glows over her forehead. In the dim black of the space above her, a faint scythe symbol can barely be seen, haloed faintly in blue. Character: Adira Eagriss, corrupt queen turned megalomaniac, self-experimenting mad scientist (and perpetrator of a genocide). The same image as previous, generally, but with color alterations. Instead of an overall blue and black color scheme, some of the lighting is tinged green as well. A subtle change, but definitely adds some atmosphere. Another variant in which the underlighting has an orange hue and the blue of Adira’s magic has been carved out as well. A starker color contrast overall. A final variant with the most color. Purples, blues, greens, gold, and reddish pink. There is more color to her magic as well, and the e gradient map have been layered and manipulated to create the most color-diverse version of this illustration. It’s probably my favorite, personally.

A colorful digital illustration featuring two characters dancing and the song title "Small Town Scandal," yes the one by Zolita. The one on the left, Wilson Alder, is a brown man with long, curly hair pulled back into a ponytail with lots of loose fly-aways. He's in jeans, a workshirt with rolled up sleeves, and work boots, and he's grinning bright. His partner, Pitch, is a living android with generally humanoid features and a metal audio receptor band that goes from ear to ear around the back of his head. He's also grinning like mad as he dances with Will. He's in a tanktop, jeans, fingerless gloves, and combat boots. A heart floats between them, and it's implied they are dancing to the song itself. The illustration is done in a warm color palette with oranges, pinks, and purples. The brightest point is the space around Will and Pitch, who seem to glow with the energy of the mood and their affection for one another. Will and Pitch are also submerged in the color palette, not colored in with their usual schemes. Both characters are in motion, pulling one another's hands and swinging around mid-step.

A character design concept for Ev Stark, one of the main characters of the artist's original project, Fractal Alliances. Ev is an average height, masculine character with androgynous presentation. They have tan skin marked with orange bands visible on their face, wrists, and biceps, as well as many scars. Here, their hair has been freshly cut to have a short fade and a fluffy top; their hair is brown at the roots and turns white and orange on the longer parts (magic effect). They have eyes with dark sclera and pink around their iris and pupil. Their expression is stoic, their hands are curled into fists at their sides. Ev's outfit design here was done for a gala event in a part of the current wip story with FA. They're wearing a base layer black tank top that reaches partway up their neck, as well as a sheer overlayer dress shirt that is a warm brown tone. The dress shirt is cuffed at mid-arm length. Ev is also wearing brown, multi-tone pants with many pockets and padded knees. They're in their trademark armored boots, which are black with metal plating over the arch, toe, and heel and have an orange and blue gravity manipulation orb over each ankle. On their right hip is a dagger holster which holds their genera'ka (Talkian council of generals) blade.

A digital illustration of a front-facing character: Pitch Alder(heart), a living android (android with a soul). He has dark gray synthskin, black hair, and half his face is painted a golden yellow. He’s wearing a red and black leather jacket bearing several patches, including the syndicate crest and the trans pride flag (for his kids and sibling, mostly). On each hip he has a suped up hand blaster in a stylized, colored holster. He’s also wearing combat boots, which have metal fasteners and an orange and blue ball near the ankle that is related to gravity manipulation magic. A digital illustration of a front-facing character: Fawkes Djiian, a living android that’s part humanoid and part… vague canine. He’s wearing a thick red aviator jacket bearing several patches, including the syndicate crest. He has red hair, a red tail, and a Jack Sparrow style goatee. His legs are digitigrade, and embedded in his heels are orange and blue circles near the ankle that are related to gravity manipulation magic. On each hip he carries a blaster in a custom holster. A digital illustration of a front-facing character: Bronze Alderheart, a mostly humanoid living android. He has tan synthskin in three splotchy shades, designed to resemble vitiligo. Across his arms and legs are blue lines and design accents, and his fingertips are blue. He doesn’t carry any viable weapons, but he does have a purple HOLOpad. He’s wearing clothes than make him seem oddly reminiscent of a summer camp counselor: cargo shorts, hiking boots with high socks, a loose button up over a t-shirt. A digital illustration of a front-facing character: Sal Aldavis, a mostly humanoid living android. He has pale skin, blonde hair, and a long tail and 2 rabbit-like ears. He’s in a green patchwork letterman/m-style jacket covered in patches and pins, and has a blaster in one hip.

One character is a vaguely canine anthropomorphic shadow creature with glowing orange teeth, purple-gray fur, and 2 visible weapons on their hips (a plasma gun and a knife). The other is a bear-like sentient android with black, teal, and yellow fur. He’s in a red cardigan and work pants. A picture of an iPad screen that displays another android character who is partly humanoid and somewhat canine. She has pink markings and fur across her shoulders, her hair is pink, and she’s wearing a yellow crop top with a triangle print design across it. She’s sticking her tongue out at the character to her right (viewer left) (her brother). A picture of an iPad screen that displays a humanoid android character with blonde hair, torn and rabbit-like ears, and a green letterman-style jacket. He has a red blaster on his hip and a joint in between two fingers. A picture of an iPad screen that displays a bird-like/harpy-like character with winged arms and a red poncho. A messy digital painting/sketch of a man who is vaguely identifiable as being from a fantasy setting. The biggest tip-offs are the glowing, swirly magic hair and the long canine-like ears. He’s washed out by the lighting a bit, but the figure is a brown man with dark hair, red magic swirling through it and flecking his beard. He’s wearing a shoulder wrap shawl thing. It looks cozy. His expression is forlorn as he looks off into the vague distance. A closer, more square crop of the same illustration.

A messy digital sketch of 3 characters grouped together like they’re ready to throw down. The woman on the left has a sci-fi pistol with a scope and magic headgear; the middle person has thigh holsters for two hand guns, plus glowing blue eyes and orange magic around their arms and head; the man on the right has fiery hair, runes in his arms, and knives. In that order, the characters are Catie Davis from The Lycanthra Syndicate and Ev Stark and Fin Heran from Fractal Alliances. The sketch is set in the 2030s E-10 when these three briefly team up to root out some mindbreakers in the Iron Archipelagos (where Catie is from). The sketch is on a gray background with varying shades used to create the shadows of the alleyway and on their persons. Additionally, there is a series of written note on the bottom of the frame that say: “Catie, Ev, and Fin get to fuck shit up in the Archs in the mid-2030s. The Black Market, enemy (to Lycanthra) territory, Order territory...” “Ev goes incognito via glamour... but it's clear it's them if you know to look” “Catie and Ev bond over guns, + Ev shows her will's old prototypes they've tinkered with.”

so, have a rare sketch of Corrin and Jesse

#sketch #art #ocs #brdimocs #brokendimensions
A pencil sketch of a man with two horns (maybe 8-10” for reference), fluffy hair, and long elf-like ears. He had a sharp, straight nose and a strong jawline and cheekbones. He’s also got freckles and gauges. This sketch is just a bust (collar-up). A pencil sketch of the man from the last pic getting enthusiastically kissed by a shorter masculine (?) person who has one hand on his hip pocket and one… elsewhere :) Corrin is getting a little heated; he’s easily overwhelmed by physical stimuli and affection. (There’s a reason he live din his armor during his Vanguard days.) Jesse, the other party, is going to town lol. Jesse also has short, curly hair and although you can’t tell because I done color most of my sketches and his features are small here, they are a mixed-race brown person. (They are also trans and genderqueer, but for the purposes of this sketch, they’re not at that point in the timeline yet lol. He’s still an egg.) #conceptart #art #originalproject #brokendimensions
A messy illustration of several armored characters with weapons in a darkened cityscape. At the end of the city avenue is the bright orange glow of daylight. In the far distance puff clouds and a floating city are visible. Someone just out of the shot wields an angular scythe whose crook draws focus to the most distant character, near the a break in the tall buildings looking upward. The two closest visible figures have glowing blue visors. Another figure in the mid ground faces towards the furthest character, which can be construed as loyalty to that character (and the ones with visors therefore being loyal (in some fashion) to the one wielding the scythe). The colors of this concept piece are dark, vaguely purplish, with the bright parts being predominantly yellow, orange, and gold with some blue in the sky and visors. The same image as previous, but with a redder color palette. The original palette of this piece which has dark browns, bright orange-golds, and dim blues. Less saturated, but the forms are still clear because the values are differentiated decently well.

A messy digital illustration of two characters during a hand-to-hand spar. Fin Heran, the one with the back tattoo and fiery hair, has Ev (orange-white hair, sweatpants, orange markings) pinned to a mat (not drawn in). There are lines to mimic the impact and their movements, and Fin has a word bubble that says "gotcha." Ev protests with a spiky bubble that says "HEY!" Other details: The background of the piece is dark, but there is a red rectangle behind the two characters to emphasize the focal point. It could be more centered, lol. Fin is in athletic shorts and has his knee on Ev's hip/crotch. Ev is grinning despite having just lost a round. There's clearly some sexual tension going on here. A closer crop of the same illustration, focused more on the characters' faces and close proximity. You can see Fin's freckles and his and Ev's scars better. It's also clear without zooming in that Ev is staring at Fin's hand on their shoulder. Also, their other hand is joined with his for some reason. Certainly not because Fin's gonna take this "pinning" thing out of the usual parameters for a spar... nope...

Fin is very much enjoying that. Details: Ev has a bite mark on their visible shoulder, and in this sketch they have their hair pulled back in a ponytail, leaving their undercut visible. Fin looks about the same as he usually does, but I drew his sideburns as, yk, actual sideburns and not a scraggly not-beard. A wider crop of the previous sketch, which shows Ev cupping Fin’s ass and the ties of lingerie around their hips. It’s also worth noting that Fin’s hand is supposed to be pressed against the mythical wall behind Ev, but this was at the edge of the page, so neither are visible. Whoops.

A picture of a pencil sketch on grainy paper. The sketch depicts a light-haired woman smiling as her friend laughs into her shoulder, clutching her arm for stability. The woman is Nyra Cyrinell, an oc with prophetic visions. The man is Nathan Shasear, the mage who helps her find the goddess of prophecy and who later becomes her best friend. Nyra is in a blue tank top and Nathan has blue stripes on his face. They are both happy, which is a first for me (they usually suffer lol). A sketch of Nathan Shasear kissing the love of his life, Serra Tyrannis, full on the mouth. He has his hands on their neck and Serra is holding his waist. They seem happy. A messy, not-quite-proportional pencil sketch of Alkaline Aviligne leaning his head atop Fin Heran's as Fin works from a holopad. Al has short hair here and is in a loose robe thing. He's smiling pleasantly, his arms crossed in front of Fin's chest. Fin looks utterly bored as he stares at his holopad, but he's probably comforted by Al's warmth and general presence. A perspective pencil sketch of Pitch Alder, a living android with yellow bands across his body. He is sitting in a throne-like chair with a crown of magic around his head, his stance wide, one hand idly raised and the other draped across the arm of the chair. He is looking down at the viewer with a sense of smugness and superiority.

A grayscale, 1-page comic containing five panels of varying size. The focal character doing most of the speaking is Evansen Stark, a short-haired mixed-race masc person depicted here in armor with a sword over one shoulder. The quote used for the comic is that one Critical Role (?) quote about how laws are threats. In panel 1, it's just Ev starting out with "Laws..." and then they go into the rest of the spiel and in panel 2 they're standing in a military camp over several teenage rebels (namely Thelia and Markis Sparkes here). In panel 3 they continue, with a small aside that says "not entirely unlike us right now" after the bit about how the "police are basically an occupying army." In panel 4 they kind of chuckle and say "y'know what I mean?" The last panel is the largest and pans out to show Ev standing over the kids and asking if they want to make bacon. In the foreground in a darker shade, apart from the convo Ev is having, Fin and Talis stand aside together. Fin subtly asks Talis if Ev is an anarchist, and Talis says "yeah." Fin snort and says that's ironc (it is).
