Congratulations to Shrey Parikh from Rancho Cucamonga, California, for winning the Scripps National Spelling Bee!

Shrey’s winning word was bromocriptine, a polypeptide alkaloid that acts like dopamine. Hopefully, his win had a similar effect on him!

Not now, Ebola! We’re going through some things.

“Ongoing testing showed that the mother’s blood remained negative, but viral RNA was still detectable in breast milk at 14 weeks after illness onset. To protect the newborn from transmission, clinicians used bromocriptine to suppress lactation.”
A case study found indications of Ebola virus in breast milk 14 weeks after recovery, even as blood tests were negative.

This is maybe the wildest thing I’ve ever seen, worth a watch.

Also headlines saying “he won with bromocriptine” are really underselling what happened here
Shrey spelling 32 words in 90 seconds to win the Spelling Bee is the new greatest athletic accomplishment of 2026. I don’t even know how he said the letters that fast. Got a “Holy Mackerel” out of @minakimes.bsky.social

Unrelated, as a Louisiana native, I find the spelling bee official's incorrect pronunciation of Natchitoches offensive. ⚜️😬

The only word I recognized was bromocriptine because I’m in the medical field, I wasn’t sure this was English until then. Btw my autocorrect on my phone is saying bromocriptine isn’t a word
