#broomsedge
With the warming of spring it’s time to break out the macro lens. Here is what I believe is an early sawfly on broomsedge bluestem.

Broomsedge bluestem #andropogonvirginicus has moved in after a forest canopy disturbance at Susquehanna Riverlands State Park. Don't tell Little bluestem, but I think Broomsedge bluestem is more attractive in the winter.

I love this point in the year when the Taxodium distichum (bald cypress) and the Andropogon virginicus (broomsedge) that is increasing in the orchard #garden beds are both a play on the color orange.

🌱📷 I've had my head down taking a bit of a social media break because there's only so much politics I can handle. I'll be back posting photos and weird creations soon, but in the meantime enjoy this broomsedge (Andropogon glomeratus)

That thing where you get up fully intending to function but are so tired you immediately climb back into your bed full dressed with coffee and impulse buy some #NativePlants #seeds instead.

With a beautiful day and the folks away, it’s time to start processing the bluestem for brooms. I think it will make an excellent intermediary between a soft broomsedge broom and a hard stick besom. With a coarse seed head at the top, it won’t carry so many fluffy seeds like the broomsedge.

My 80-plant order came in a week early and I was not planning on planting this weekend. 😬

The Mountain Laurel (right) worked well in the making, will have to see how well it lasts in the using. #broommaking #bushcraft

Picture taken a couple hours ago after being stuck in traffic. I decided I should stop and take some pictures to relax.

...Some ideas of species that could be up for the challenge (drought, poor soil, high pH): Lyre Leaf Sage, Calico Aster, Gray Goldenrod, Stiff Goldenrod, Mtn. Mints, 'Cape Breeze' Switchgrass, Broomsedge, Little Bluestem, Prairie Dropseed, Prairie Clover, Side Oats, etc. Do you like this idea?

This is the first time I've heard it called "whiskey grass." It's much less misleading than "Broomsedge."
