RIP indie comics legend Matt Howarth (1954–2026), an inspiration since my mid-teens and by far the most formative influence on the writing of the Weird Luck webcomic.

Oh man. Like 50% of my style is lifted from or at least deeply inspired by Matt's work, from his sprawling multi-series Bugtown comics, to his interstellar fixer Kief Llama, to his all-alien Konny & Czu.

Come along for the ride!

See you there.

Awww, fuck. Howarth was one of the cartoonists who convinced me that I could still enjoy comics despite having grown up, and past the stuff I used to enjoy as a child. Bugtown was as necessary as Palomar, at one point in my reading.

Oh no. Matt Howarth is one of my favorite comic artists and writers ever, and I'm TERRIBLY sad to hear he's died. I even had a fan letter printed in one issue of Savage Henry. Thank you for warping my brain in the best possible ways, Matt. May you find Bugtown and regenerate forevermore.

Incredibly sad. The Post Bros. was one of my first "alternative" comics and I loved all the Bugtown spinoffs, like Savage Henry. His Keif Llama series was super fun as well.
Just found out that Matt Howarth died. One of the purest examples of the explosion of creativity that happened in American comics in the 1980s, his weird take on genre tropes was totally individual and uncommercial. RIP.

Also a semi-regular collaborator on Matt Howarth's Bugtown comics, the first of which he published in Heavy Metal.
Ted White, former editor of HEAVY METAL magazine, AMAZING STORIES, and FANTASTIC magazine passed away today, at the age of 88. He wrote the 1968 CAPTAIN AMERICA novel, THE GREAT GOLD STEAL. www.facebook.com/groups/corfl...

I have a fraction of the ephemera at best, but it's enough to give a vague idea how big a COMPLETE BUGTOWN would have to be.

Matt Howarth's Complete Bugtown, Vols. One Through I Don't Even Wanna Think About It
Question for tomorrow (since i have to go to bed):

What's a book or books that you would want collected that isn't today?

I'm just curious what those inspired books that might not be the biggest sellers are!
