Nice overwintering male Blackcap in my Castle Bytham garden this morning. Busy sunning itself when not feeding on the fat balls. @lincsbirding.bsky.social #lincsbirding #ukbirding

"I made the mistake of straying too far from the palace alone." He sighed. "You'll be shocked, I'm sure, to learn that arrogance is a fault of mine." - Basim Ibn Ishaq, TGC chapter 28 #bytham

Castle Bytham, Lincolnshire — once a mighty Norman motte-and-bailey built after 1066 on an earlier Saxon site. It was a stronghold for Norman barons. Today only earthworks remain, but its scale is still clear from above.

No #parkrun today...! 😱

Instead had our annual trip to the wonderful little Castle Bytham Midsummer Festival to take part in their 5k trail run. Still not running (achilles) so cracked out the trekking poles for a nice walk in the sun. Plus, cake in the tea tent afterwards!
#bonus 😉🍰

A great turnout for the 1st LFG meeting of 2025 at Little Bytham. 170 species recorded, lots of discussion and informal training, a thriving population of Stream Water-crowfoot (a VC53 rarity), invasive Three-cornered Garlic, a fancy caterpillar and cake

The fine earthworks at Castle Bytham, all that remains of impressive Norman and Angevin works.

Pub 3010, Fox n Hounds, Castle Bytham. Been to pub here on same street, grr. Weird smell. Like they are curating a 16th century fart n locking it in. Great otherwise. Red, wood, horse racing, friendly folks, dweebs sat outside, Abbeydale Absolution on song. Rainstorm incoming!
