A very nice and worn Gruen wristwatch from c1951! Currently got it all apart and cleaned, but I’m waiting on parts to replace a few broken ones.
Polishing up the steel case, it will look almost new when done. Hopefully I can get it ticking again!

"The Thing (from Another World), c1951. You didn't see the Thing till the end of the movie. But the suspense was both frightening and creepy. James Arness, who played the Thing, at 6ft 7in, height was enhanced to over 7 ft tall which was even more disturbing.

Flying 1950s style. Images of passenger flights from a B.O.A.C. map of Britain and the Commonwealth, c1951. 4 days to Sydney with multiple stop-overs doesn't sound like fun and people look wrapped up so probably not that warm either. Still, looks like a gin and tonic will help @bodleian.ox.ac.uk
