2025 has been a year of owls for me. I've gone from effectively seeing no owls in the wild, to seeing a Great Grey, a few Short Eared, and now a pair of nesting Barred Owls.

Dept. of Agriculture to fund $100 million for bird flu vaccines despite JFK saying chickens should get natural immunity. He's crazy because it kills them rapidly. Canada does not have bird flu. They raise their chickens inside away from wild birds.

The person with severe H5N1 bird flu has died, the first fatal case in the U.S. Fortunately, the second severe case out of about 70 mostly mild cases in the current outbreak -- a teen in Canada -- ultimately recovered. @helenbranswell.bsky.social reports.
