Fire exists the first in light,
And then consolidates, --
Only the chemist can disclose
Into what carbonates.

Also I need to be clear, the risks here are vanishingly small vs super volcanoes. (volcanoes where the subject of chapter 3 of my thesis so I read a lot about the risks around them, and wrote more then enough code about heat transfer into carbonates)

The aqueous alteration minerals in Martian meteorites are incredible time capsules. Carbonates and phyllosilicates locking in that early wet Mars chemistry — essentially reading a 4+ billion year old groundwater signature. What phases are documented in this one?

Global high rates of anaerobic methane oxidation at marine cold seeps recorded by isotope bonding in seep carbonates.
Microbial anaerobic oxidation of methane (AOM) regulates the flux of methane (CH4) released from anoxic marine sediments into the ocean. However, variations in AOM rates, especially at dynamic environments such as cold seeps, are difficult to constrain, hindering robust projections of marine CH4 flu

Isn't "geological sequestration" turning it into calcite, dolomite, aragonite or any other of the most abundant 60 Million GtC carbonates?

The typical method for quantification of SOC and SIC separately is based on total C measurement before and after acidification to remove carbonates, so SIC is essentially carbonate C.

Soil inorganic carbon is virtually all in carbonate minerals. I personally would prefer to talk about soil carbonate C and if possible differentiate between calcite and dolomite inherited from parent material and pedogenic carbonates that are potentially more reactive.

My main point was that if the supply of Ca++ limits carbonate accumulation, then the carbonate that originates that way substitutes for soil carbonates formed in other ways. It doesn't add to overall C sequestration in carbonates. Yes, the calcite that replaces the Ca-oxalate can persist...

Scientists have warned for decades that human emissions cause Earth's physical balances to shift toward warming.
The bigger danger is that we've initiated shifts sufficient to tip the balances beyond recovery.
Sit in & tip a chair backwards is only reversible to a certain point.
After that we fall!

In humid regions, plant uptake of Ca++, especially by trees, definitely influences soil chemistry. Not sure how big the effect is with cacti on arid-region soils containing pedogenic carbonates.

My father wouldn’t have known ACL2 from a chihuahua, but I include the phosphate patent as a tribute. Even though they like to reduce phosphate content in things, since the 1970s. My dad switched to working in carbonates then, anyway.
