Adult tortoise beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Cassidini) have a rather unique appearance. Some resemble lady beetles and some look more metallic, but what’s really interesting about them is that most species have translucent shells. Palmyra Michigan, 03 Aug 2014.

Day 26
Cassadini - Chiptune + multi instrumentalist master! I remember catching them seated furiously composing because they had been hit with inspiration so hard, it didn't matter it was a hectic environment, they had to COMPOSE! cassidini.bandcamp.com/album/palewa...

Primer bicho. Hispa artra en actitud disfrutona. Un curioso Cassidini que confía en sus espinas como defensa. No tiene glandula alguna que le ayude. El resultado de esta cópula pasará el invierno en forma larvaria hasta la primavera.

We went back and looked for the treehopper and it was gone. 😕 The beetle is a tortoise beetle from Tribe Cassidini. There are also eggs in that dent in its elytra (hardened wing covers).

Fun little back story. This photo is from a BugShot workshop with the amazing @nickybay.bsky.social.
Nicky: "Come here, a cool beetle!" Me: "Ok, ok."
I show him the back of my camera and say, "I found this cool treehopper." Nicky: "You need to tell me when you find something like that!" 🤷😂

More music! For week 6 I wanted to see how many different synth sounds I could pack in at once. Kinda like a chip synthesizer orchestra – my dream ensemble

Week 5 is hot and ready to go! I unpacked my bass, EWI, and omnichord, so my patented (not patented) digital fusion ensemble is back up and running! This time the chiptune backing is Amiga with some drums sampled from the NES chip. Here's to more of these in the future!

This is the most recent song so far! I couldn't decide between doing a bossa rhythm and a breakbeat so I combined both! Also abusing Furnace's ability for 7-bit PCM mode on 2A03 and dual 4-bit sampling with the VRC6. It's also only 8 measures rearranged a ton of ways. I love loops

This is a track I did for week #3 of the year! Right after MAGFest I got a bad case of the flu and was bedridden for the whole week pretty much. When the brain fog cleared that Sunday I wrote this in a few hours to describe how it felt. And no, I've never used a Neo Geo Pocket, but it sounds great

Week 2 I was inspired by listening to Rebecca Sugar's Lonely Magic and also just the Sunsoft 5B chip in general so I made this little tune while sitting in a hallway at MAGFest
