At least one Pied Fly was still at Castlebay today, our first Wood Warbler on Barra this year was at Creachan, a few Sooty Shearwaters were offshore and 21 Icelandic Black-tailed Godwits were at Eoligarry. And the breeze kept the midges away till 7pm when they all came for dinner! #birdingscotland

A Pied Flycatcher at Nask and 2 more at Castlebay were our first of the autumn on Barra, all finding plenty to eat on the midgiest of days! #birdingscotland

I've been to Stornoway on Lewis and to Barra on the southern end of the Hebrides. My deceased g/f was from Castlebay in Barra and we traveled all around that area. It is beautiful there. I'd highly recommend it for peace and serenity.

Teaching staff in Barra who are members of the EIS union, have voted to take action over their Castlebay In-Service dispute. The Consultative Ballot closed on Friday 24July – 24 members were eligible to vote and the turnout was 71%.

Meanwhile, I'm just lazing about. Post-trip laundry has been on since 8am, I'm in no rush to do anything. Enjoying this Outer Hebridean tale of shipwrecks, enterprise, opportunity and excise men that I picked up in the community shop in Castlebay.

So... this morning we were taken to Oban by taxi, then we spent several hours on the Cal-Mac to Barra. The very nice man from the bike hire company met us off the ferry and got us set up with our whizzy e-bikes. We're finally here, having a great time, and the journey has been an adventure.

Ultimately... flight cancelled. Too foggy to land on Barra.
2 hours waiting for baggage to be offloaded... then...
LoganAir have put us up in a hotel. Tomorrow they're having us driven to Oban, where we'll be put on the ferry to Castlebay. So, we'll get to Barra, but no beach landing.

Whilst connecting Oban to the 230 Kirkintilloch and 321 Milngavie CCPs was due to a shortage of cables between Oban to Glasgow it got worse:
235 Mallaig,
237 Tobermory,
238 Castlebay &
239 Port Ellen
would not be upgraded to CCPs at all with all warnings passed by telephone.
