Same thing happened to me with a stolen laptop. It had automatic backups configured, and from that I was able to get an IP address AND the name and address of the guy who had it, thanks to docs that got saved. Cops were like “LOL thx.”
a very funny eye opening experience many people have had about how the cops actually operate is this "hey i have a tracking beacon on this stolen item that shows exactly where it is can you arrest the guy who stole it?" and the cops go like "lol no that sounds like a lot of work"
