A generation of defining Catholicism as about opposition to something called "the culture" and in turn completely uncritically conflating orthodoxy with conservatism—no matter how obviously ridiculous—is what got us here

St Peter’s in York, likely influenced his conversion to Catholicism though is family had mixed religious ties. His involvement in the Eighty Years War fighting for Catholic Spain against Dutch Reformers also played it's part. Fawkes though is a complex character with multiple motivations

i did ask her once how she feels about the fact that filipinos only practice catholicism because it was forced upon our ancestors by the spanish and she said sure that was bad but something something we're saved by jesus... there's also a level of syncretism with ilocano catholicism tho...

I’m fascinated by how Japanese media portrays Catholicism. It’s often colored by Japanese religious sensibilities to the point it becomes a new hybrid religion. Sacraments & cathedrals & the Bible, but also astrology & shrine maidens & reincarnation. & way less Christian purity culture than irl.
