Do I have too many plants? Yes. Did I find a bunch of seeds that I ordered from Serbia and forgot about? Also yes. Sigh. Guess I have 12 more species of caudiciforms to figure out how to not kill 🌱

Begonia dregei 'Tweedle Dee' from the National Cactus and Succulent Show. I couldn't resist trying this one. It's a caudiciform succulent Begonia. I've given it a prune already so I should have loads of cuttings too. #begonia #succulents #caudiciforms #plantsky #houseplants

Ooh, I'd love a herbarium series! A question for a future installment, perhaps--I used to work in a vert museum, so I understand cataloging, but have always been confused about pressings... Doesn't flattening limit your view of the plant? How do pressings show 3D info for succulents/ caudiciforms?

Fockea edulis

I love the reveal in unpotting these caudiciforms. It’s like a box of chocolates. That roof exposing itself through the bottom of the pot was a good indicator though by Floratopia

I am definitely guilty of trying to keep some plants going way too long, but in this case, its my beloved caudiciform plants that go into and out of dormancy for, like, no reason whatsoever, all the time 😹

Caudiciforms: plants that are bad at planting

Caudiciforms are fantastic, and they have grown in popularity. Where you once were only able to get a random desert rose, you can now fairly easily get even the rarest species online.

The pandemic has cranked the marked for rare exotics like crazty.

"growing hard": Feed once a year or even don't; keep in soil-free, airy substrate; when you think it needs water, it usually doesn't.

Agree, they are fabulous. If I didn't stick to my self imposed 'Begonias only' rule (there's only so much room at my beach shack)(beach shack needing a large annex 😂😂), I'd choose Caudiciforms to add to the mix.
Yeah, the market has changed, for sure. I chuckle seeing variegated Monstera prices.
