ccTLD manager will be notified and it'll be deprecated over time.

Let's walk through this. The account in question has a custom domain. However, when I check that out, it's just a redirect to another site. Both addresses in question have private registration.

My favourite 'lost' ccTLD is .um
That was the ccTLD for the United States Outlying Minor Islands (so Midway, Wake etc.)
In about 2006, the IANA spotted it was no longer resolving. The University of Southern California had arbitrarily shut it down as nobody had ever registered anything on it. Ever.

In a cool world this would be built on ATProto and citizens would be eligible for a *.w.eu handle and/or a handle from the ccTLD of each member state.
The last thing anyone needs is a new "platform" for microblogging. The whole point is we should be moving beyond silo'd platforms into an open social world. So my response to the launch of "W" as a competing platform to "X" is simply: "but Y, tho?"

Long version: .io has never actually been a locally-run ccTLD, but rather a privately run TLD, and much like .su (the USSR ccTLD) will grandfathered or reclassified as a gTLD.

Apart from valer.ie already being taken by someone, the .ie ccTLD requires either living in Ireland, or being able to prove a real and substantive connecting with it.

TIL that in the 90s Slovenia stole the .yu ccTLD by breaking into a university in Belgrade and just taking all the equipment and records for hosting it. Then once they had it they refused to issue any new domains to Serbians lol.
