Norwegian researchers gave anti-CD38 antibody daratumumab to 10 women with moderate to severe ME/CFS.

Six showed marked improvement, with physical function scores more than doubling and step counts tripling.

No serious side effects were reported.

In #CD38, I endorse the incumbent Shahana Hanif. Another strong voice for transportation, she supported the Arrow Linen rezoning and City of Yes. She is facing a primary challenger funded, in part, by Republican donors.

5) Instead of CD20, plasma cells express the CD38 protein on their surface. By using daratumumab, which targets CD38, researchers hope to kill these plasma cells and stop the production of autoantibodies.

Results from the pilot study were promising:

This is quite something: a second clinical trial targeting the CD38 receptor on plasma cells (apparently, it's also on some B cells). The other one is the daratumumab trial by Fluge & Mella in Norway (which is a different monoclonal antibody targeting the same CD38 receptor).
5) Scheibenbogen said they have funding for the plasma/CD38 study through private funding and a foundation. Sanofi owns the medication they want to trial (so the drug is probably Isatuximab = Sarclisa) and they are interested in testing it further with them.

2) Not entirely sure which drug this refers to, but Scheibenbogen previously talked about doing a trial targeting plasma cells that produce antibodies, so it could be Isatuximab (which targets the cell marker CD38, the same as Daratumumab).

Third, the very promising data from Oystein Fluge, who showed pilot data with daratumumab (anti-CD38, depleting plasma cells), which improved symptoms in 6/10 ME/CFS patients. Really looking forward to the follow-up study! 4/7

Great study by the Rezvani lab exploring the relationship between the immunological synapse and NK-CAR function in response to AML. One outstanding question - with a CD38 CAR, how many cord-blood derived CAR-NK cells are undergoing fratricide? A CD38 KO could preserve NK #s and enhance NK function.

2) Some of the most in-depth studies on B-cells in ME/CFS were done by her group (I recently re-read them when writing an overview of findings in the immune system).

Here's an example where they found increased expression of CD38:

4) With this new info, they would look to test drugs that deplete B-cells (targeting CD20 or CD19) or plasma cells (targeting CD38).

Her group is ambitious and wants to do both trials in parallel.

Carmen Scheibenbogen on X: "Diese Bundespressekonferenz ist 2 Jahre her! Inzwischen wissen wir deutlich mehr über ME/CFS u.a. dank der vom BMBF geförderten #NKSG-Studien. Wir kennen vielversprechende Behandlungsansätze! Was jetzt fehlt: weitere Förderung für Medikamentenstudien u.a. mit CD19, CD38 mAb!" / X

6) This is a bit curious, as the Norwegian group of Fluge and Mella is already doing a trial of Daratumumab, a drug that also targets CD38 cells. But perhaps it's good that different research groups are thinking in the same direction.
