The slow burn of Cdramas and Kdramas are among the reasons I watch them. They remind me of the historical romances I grew up reading. Sadly, including the worst aspect of those romances--that "nice girls" shouldn't want or ask for sex.

I can deal with it in modern kdramas but it's definitely why I watch so few costume cdramas. All those dreadful manipulative mamas/stepmamas and the dads who use their kids as pawns and/or property to trade for power. Bleh!

On a less aggrieved note, I have learned 101 characters and 99 compound words so I can more easily understand some (very) simple sentences, both written and spoken, and that’s made watching cdramas even more exciting.

Finished #againstthecurrent and it’s one of the best #cdramas about women livelihood in a time that binds them to old ways. An educated woman who survived her family was able to influence other women to find their own way to survive and become successful in life. 5 stars

Finished #againstthecurrent and it’s one of the best #cdramas about women livelihood in a time that binds them to old ways. An educated woman who survived her family was able to influence other women to find their own way to survive and become successful in life. 5 stars

and even with the ending being a tiny bit wobbly @ the end -ish (but most of that is due to *my* hangups)
I give it 10 stars
Exquisitely acted, written, designed, directed~the total package
I can hear the OST & get all 🥺
I think that feeling will last

Cdramas, IMO, have a number of sexual tropes that are unsettling (including choking): arm grabbing, kisses/sex with woman's arm held above the head, princess carries in response to resistance, possessive jealousy. Hopefully they're seen as fantasy/drama rather than primers...
