Cegep is a great example of how Quebec is strange. Is it high school? Yes. Is it community college? Yes. Is it undergrad? Yes. Do they do it that way in the rest of Canada? No. Do they do it that way in France? No. Is cegep a word in French? No. Is it an acronym? No.

While historians on here seem to not even need AI to hallucinate, something like 4400 prospective CEGEP students didn't go to CEGEP (mandatory before university in Québec) this year or last year because of massive provincial educational budget cuts.
This isn't correct. The decline of the humanities is a product of falling demand -- particularly the collapse in enrollment & majors -- and not technological substitution for labor.
That said, it's true that AI, although it will help historians do better work, will not solve that crisis.

"This will transform historical research!" Cool but it's already being transformed out of existence by the same forces pushing these transformative technologies.
Forgive us if we're skeptical of a moment that's telling us "This will help you do your work--which we despise--faster and better."
