Mushed together some inspiration of fossil evidence of predator skeletons with visible tail spike damage from stegosaurus and modern wildlife photography of deer going about with the stuck heads of rivals on their antlers-macabre but fits the month! #paleoart #paleosky #stegosaurus

Earlier this summer, I broke the news that Sothebys — after smashing records for a private fossil sale in 2024 — was bringing a Ceratosaurus that had previously been in a museum to market. It just sold for $30 million, the third highest price ever.

The age of sky-high dinosaur prices is here.

🦖 Daily Paleo 🦖; Saltriovenator zanellai

From Early Jurassic Saltrio Formation, Italy, the "Saltrio Hunter" was a 1.5 ton basal ceratosaur known from fragmentary remains. The fossil was found in an open marine envoirment, likely washed there from the nearby mainland

Another day, another dinosaur auction.

A world where dinosaur skeletons can fetch tens of millions of dollars within a few minutes at auctions is not a world where dinosaurs will long be accessible to educate and inspire everyone.

My thoughts for @CNN

🦖 Daily Paleo 🦖; Berthasaura leopoldinae

From Early Cretaceous Goio-Erê Formation, Brazil, the 1 meter "Bertha lizard" is a noasaurid ceratosaur sporting features convergent with oviraptors. It's thought they had teeth as juveniles that were lost and replaced with a beak in adults

🦖 Daily Paleo 🦖; Austrocheirus isasii

From Late Cretaceous Pari Aike Formation, Argentina, "southern hand" is an enigmatic medium sized theropod. Initially considered a basal abelisauroid, recent analysis find it to be part of a new Ceratosaur clade called Berthasauridae

the thickened frontal bone and muscular neck of carnotaurus suggests that it engaged in heabutting behaviour, though such instances of combat are more likely to have involved slow headbutting and shoving as opposed to rapid blows pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
Ceratosaur palaeobiology: new insights on evolution and ecology of the southern rulers

Some more #MaidDay stuff. The first one is ancient, like 2016 ish. Those two were not OCs at the time yet, but their designs eventually became Carissa the Ceratosaur and Aglaea the Archaeopteryx.

The second one is Titanosaur's brachio lady, Brandy.

An Enigmatic Australian Noasaurid, probably related to Noasaurus or Velocisaurus.
Known from a single bone, this very poorly understood predator gives a tiny glimpse into Australia's spotty Prehistoric past.

More fragmentary Australian dinosaurs cuz I'm biased.

A 77mm neck vertebrae from the Eumeralla formation suggests the existence of a 4-5 metre Elaphrosaur (a kind of herbivorous Ceratosaur).
