thanks to @dhnexon.net for putting this in my feed

as Callimachus (3rd C. BCE Hellenistic poet & guardian of the Alexandrian library) said: μέγα βιβλίον μέγα κακόν (a big book is a big evil)

more than ever, we depend on conciseness to separate the wheat from the chaff

otherwise the crop is lost
As AI increases both productivity & ease of creating slop, there's a big challenge for those of us disseminating science. This from @pracheeac.bsky.social is an essential read.

Disclosure: I ranted to Claude with a bunch of my grievances and ideas, and had it organize them into this blog post.

Thats how we separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak!💯👍

Some areas are more bent than others. The "Big 4" are now as shady as any little grubs were but used to have ethics and integrity. So is the privatised and corporatised public service (eg robodebt). I was successful because I did not and the good guys respected that. Easy to sort wheat from chaff..

well, we haven't had any comms with the Gal despite multiple efforts. we know our beams are making it thru the chaff, but there's no response.

4 days until the deal is done. The Democrats should vow to break up Skydance in the next administration. Trump has made it easy for Dems to break it up with the open corruption in both mergers. Don’t support any dem who opposes breaking up Skydance. This should separate the wheat from the chaff.

Also very engaging chaff to keep everyone occupied when the checks stop clearing. Not that it'll work, but they're pretty clearly throwing everything they can think of at the wall atm
October 2, 2026 at 11:59 PM
well, just about every hour some jerk (usually named "my phone", i'm not calling op here a jerk) tries to sell me on what ai can do for me, so i've gotten bored of it all and only pay attention when the subject is "what ai has done". i won't deny the math theory achievements. most else is chaff
i guess part of what i’m suggesting is it’s a question best answered by regularly using it. i understand some people don’t want to do that for ethical reasons, which i support. but i think they should recognize that also likely limits their ability to comment usefully on AI’s capabilities and limits

USE POWDER IN THE SUMMER DONT LET EM CHAFF ITS NOT FUN

I think the genuinely only shot is to have mega charizard or something equivalent out on curve, having everything in hand from the start, or drawing perfectly. And the mega charizard rental deck just has way too much chaff to get the cards you need at the right time.

"R27ETs" yes, long range IR missiles, but you need to 1. know where the stealth aircraft is, 2. get close enough to pick it up with IRST, 3. launch a long range fox 2, 4. survive the stealth aircraft's (multiple) fox 3s, 5. hope that the stealth aircraft doesn't just use flares and chaff

Too much chaff, and too slow. As soon as Leafeon comes out on turn 2 (and it always fucking does) it's too late to stop the momentum. Since that thing can generate extra energy each turn it's just a brutal beating once Beedrill is out on turn 3.

Two words: Pacific Link.
I know it's going to take years, but it's going to chaff the fucknut in the White House in the meantime!

I love that sentence! “ it’s just that I can exclude the chaff so the wheat is clearer”
October 2, 2026 at 3:04 PM
Well, I get it from public stories— I actually won’t use anything that’s not in the public record— so it’s there. It’s just that I can exclude the chaff so the wheat is clearer.

I wonder if this was ever a serious proposal, or just more chaff to distract from <waves arms> all this.

Tech Advisor November 2026 digital magazine
You won’t be surprised to hear that we love all things tech here at Tech Advisor. Whether it’s the latest smartphones or tablets, smartwatches or smart rings, we can’t get enough. That’s why this month we’re bringing you the best from one of the world’s biggest electronics shows: IFA. The annual convention is used by tech companies to show off their newest products, and it’s one of our highlights of the year. But with so much on offer, it can be tricky separating the wheat from the chaff. That’s where we come in. In this month’s issue, you’ll find our favourite new tech in our Best of IFA 2026 Awards feature. IFA wasn’t the only show in town this month. Apple held its Surprise and Shine event at which it revealed its latest iPhones, along with additions to its Apple Watch and AirPods line-up. The highlight was the unveiling of the highly-anticipated iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable phone. While its starting price of £1,999 certainly raised a few eyebrows, it still looks like a fantastic piece of kit. You can find everything you need to know about the new releases inside. If you’re not convinced by Apple’s high-end phones, our round-up of the latest budget handsets is for you. There’s a thriving industry of affordable smartphones and thanks to the hard work of our tech experts, we’ve highlighted the ones that stand out from the rest. You can find our top 10 budget phones in our in-depth buying guide. All this and more, including reviews of Google’s Pixel 11 Pro Fold and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, can be found inside the latest issue of Tech Advisor.
