Chalicotheres don't come close to the breathtaking speed of a horse at full gallop. But Earthside horses back home never had anything remotely like the massive gorilla arms and claws of a chalicotherium to defend itself and its rider.

They make excellent guard animals. 5/5

I think it supposed to be more a chalicotherium than a Moropus but I couldn’t think of a good “pun”

Just adding to this thread, I think the practical version only had ~a foot of neck, so it wouldn't have helped much for that first promo shot.
I would believe they did a decent amount of hand-touchups to get a more photoreal look than they could achieve in motion, the promos always looked better.

Artfight 2026 - Attack 109 (2026 attack 40)
Character is owned by @dinoserious.bsky.social

Here's the other big 4.5 hour piece that I was talking about from attack 110. Its an idea I had last year but was too anxious to do it prior.

Weet je wat ook gekke beesten waren? Chalicotherium, een onevenhoevige die op aarde voorkwam tussen 23 en 5 miljoen jaar geleden.

Het was een soort kruising tussen een paard en een gorilla.

How about almost sorta-kinda-horse questions/speculation? 😅

Long story short, my story has horses, but they are Miocene and far too small ride.

Chalicotherium, however... Imagine a basket saddle that allows the rider to sit that sloping back.

And my personal fave, Chalicotherium. Miocene horses are far too small to ride, so these are the mounts the riders of the Central Plain use instead. They trade with the Lake Folk for special reed basket-saddles that allow them to ride their sloped backs.

Chalicotherium goldfussi, an extinct species of odd-toed ungulate that lived across Europe and Asia during the Miocene epoch (about 23 to 5.3 million years ago). It was first discovered in the Late Miocene strata of the Eppelsheim sand beds in Germany.

Resembling a horse mixed with a gorilla and a giant ground sloth, Chalicotherium has to be one of the weirdest and most interesting members of the Perissodactyl family: (herbivorous mammals with three toes).

So, yeah, I'm visualizing Chalicotherium with those traits and am quite disturbed by the image.

6% is a poor result for the third best dinosaur. Omitted is No1 Ankylosaurus & 2. Chalicotherium
A shocking new poll result: Many Americans somehow don't have a favorite dinosaur.

And only 6% give the correct answer (triceratops).

This face of Chalicotherium is meme-worthy but I can't think of a caption for it.

De-extinct the chalicotherium, and introduce it to the Central Illinois Volcanic Park we’ll build with the remaining $35bil. Invite Jeff Goldblum.
