Fact: Perfect characters build distance; flawed characters build intimacy. If an author writes a protagonist without real human weakness, no reader will care about their victory.

What is your character's worst habit?

Give your protagonist a private rule: never ask for help, never go home, never lie to her sister.

The rule shows who they are. The scene where they break it shows who they're becoming.

What rule would your character never break?

I write terrible choices from the inside out:

 Believable motive
 Incomplete information
 No safe option
 Enough pressure to make the worst decision feel necessary

Then I let the consequences reshape the character.

Plot runs on want. Character arcs run on need. If your protagonist gets the goal but never faces the need, the ending feels hollow. Name both before Act Two starts — then make them collide. Which one is louder in your current draft?

Some scenes are difficult because they’re complicated. Others are difficult because you actually care about what happens to the characters. Those are usually the scenes that hit hardest.

Sometimes a scene feels emotionally flat because the character processes everything too quickly. Let the moment breathe. Not every important feeling needs to be explained immediately.

If your protagonist keeps avoiding the central problem, ask yourself whether the story is giving them enough reason to finally confront it.

Sometimes the strongest emotional scene is the quiet one after the disaster, the moment when a character finally has time to process what happened.

I love seeing a character change gradually. The best arcs often aren't one huge transformation; they're dozens of tiny choices that eventually add up.

The fastest way to find your theme? Look at your protagonist's arc.
-The Lie they believe at the start.
-The Truth they accept at the end.
The journey from that Lie to that Truth is your theme made visible.

What's the core "Lie" your protagonist believes?

A quick guide to character arcs:

Positive: The hero grows and changes for the better.
Negative: The hero spirals into tragedy.
Flat: The hero stays firm and changes the WORLD.

Which type of arc does your protagonist have?
