Please read this thread from an elected public servant who is leading the work of actually delivering charging infrastructure for EVs (Westminster has more public chargepoints than anywhere else except maybe LBHF)
Here's why we will not be doing cross pavement charging in the City of Westminster
1️⃣ We would become responsible for the safety of EV cables without the ability to verify this safety, for one because we can't know how they're connected to a domestic supply.

I’m in the UK. I don’t have off street parking so am not currently allowed to install my own charger. But there’s EV chargepoints literally in my street & all the local streets.
So in the UK / EU, hybrids are unnecessary.

Fundamentally *parking per se* is bad and detrimental on urban high streets, and adding in EV chargepoints just consolidates these disbenefits. Public EVCPs need to go on side roads!!

Interesting update - I'd love to see the actual detail. The charging network in Northern Ireland has been noticeably behind the rest of the UK. But there have been efforts to improve things lately.

Gov must focus resources in filling gaps in the network and ensure public chargers are accessible and affordable to everyone.
