For Fucks Sake checksums
Now’s a good time to add CHECKSUMS to your Gemfile.lock. For an existing project:
bundle lock --add-checksums
This will add a new CHECKSUMS section to the lockfile that Bundler will keep up to date.
Now, configure Bundler to always include checksums:
bundle config lockfile_checksums true
bundle lock --add-checksums

Checksums and exit codes catch some failure modes, but they miss others.
Checksums can detect corruption in the archive file, but they don't tell you whether the dump itself is complete or actually restorable.

Fortunately, the chain of references held up so I could find that asshole and his ignorant blatherings and at that point could then assign papers with that quote or reference to the Proved Unreliable, Must Verify Everything pile. That reference became one of my checksums, like finding a brown M&M.

Honestly, it reminds me a lot of how Jewish folks recite Torah, with the intonation markers and all, but entirely orally. Memorization tricks like arm motions, tonality, repetition are all basically analog checksums to ensure data transmission accuracy in a world before writing

Retired sys eng: I hope the backups are up to date, validated and stored offsite, detailed logging is on and replicated between systems, SHA or MD5 checksums have been created and stored offline, key logging apps installed, root level passwords have been changed to something offensive. I would’ve.
