Pakistan and Egypt concluded a two-week-long military exercise focused on counter-terrorism, the military’s media wing said on Monday. In a press release, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the “Pakistan-Egypt Joint Exercise Thunder-II” concluded in Cherat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — the military’s premier Special Operations School (SOS). “[The] two-week-long exercise was designed to enhance interoperability by refining drills, procedures, and techniques related to counterterrorism operations through joint training,” ISPR said. It added that “combat teams from the Special Services Group (SSG) of the Pakistan Army and the Egyptian Special Forces actively participated” in the exercise. The military’s media wing further said that the participants exhibited “exceptional professionalism and operational skill throughout the exercise”. The picture shows Pakistan-Egypt Joint Exercise Thunder-II underway. — ISPR General officer commanding SSG and Commander of Egyptian Paratroopers, Major General Mohamed Saad Abdel Razik, along with the defence attaché of Egypt, attended the closing ceremony. “The exercise also served to further strengthen the longstanding and historic military-to-military relations between the two friendly nations,” ISPR added. Pakistan and Egypt share long-standing bilateral relations. In October last year, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir, in a meeting with Egyptian defence officials, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to improved defence and military cooperation with Egypt.

Cherat Cement and Shirazi Investments intend to acquire majority stake in Rafhan Maize
Cherat Cement Company and Shirazi Investments Pvt. Ltd. have jointly announced their intention to acquire a controlling stake of up to 75.69% in Rafhan Maize Products Company Ltd., signaling a significant transaction in Pakistan’s corporate sector. Under the proposed acquisition plan, each firm seeks to obtain 37.845% of Rafhan Maize’s shares. The company, currently 71.04% owned by U.S.-based Ingredion Inc., reported strong financial performance in the first quarter of 2025, with a net profit of PKR 1.95 billion (EPS: 211.67) and net sales of PKR 19.06 billion during the period. Cherat Cement, listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange, is a leading manufacturer and exporter in Pakistan’s cement industry, boasting an annual production capacity of 4.5 million tons. The company maintains a strong presence in northern Pakistan and actively exports to Afghanistan, contributing to the country’s trade balance. Shirazi Investments, the investment arm of Atlas Group, is known for its diversified holdings across engineering, power, finance, and trading sectors, with a reputation for strategic governance and investment acumen. The announcement comes amid early signs of macroeconomic stabilization in Pakistan, fueled by monetary easing and IMF-backed reforms that have pushed inflation below 1%. While record remittances and a current account surplus have strengthened foreign exchange reserves, investors remain cautious due to political and security concerns, industrial contraction, and pending structural reforms in the taxation and energy sectors.

Pakistan and Egypt bolster ties as joint counter-terrorism drills conclude
WEB DESK: Pakistan and Egypt have successfully concluded a rigorous two-week military exercise aimed at synchronising counter-terrorism strategies, the military’s media wing confirmed on Monday. The "Pakistan-Egypt Joint Exercise Thunder-II" reached its finale at the Special Operations School (SOS) in Cherat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The exercise brought together elite combat teams from the Pakistan Army’s Special Services Group (SSG) and the Egyptian Special Forces, marking a significant milestone in the defence partnership between the two nations. ## Enhancing tactical interoperability According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the fortnight-long engagement was meticulously designed to enhance interoperability between the two forces. By refining specific drills, procedures, and tactical techniques, the troops aimed to streamline their response to evolving counter-terrorism threats. The ISPR noted that the participating units exhibited "exceptional professionalism and operational skill" throughout the drills. The closing ceremony was attended by the General Officer Commanding of the SSG and the Commander of the Egyptian Paratroopers, Major General Mohamed Saad Abdel Razik, alongside Egypt’s defence attaché. ### Strengthening historic military bonds Beyond the tactical gains, the exercise served as a platform to further solidify the "longstanding and historic" military-to-military relations shared by Islamabad and Cairo. This collaboration follows a high-level meeting in October last year, where Pakistan's Chief of the Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, reaffirmed the country’s dedication to deepening defence cooperation with Egyptian officials. The successful completion of Thunder-II underscores a mutual commitment to regional stability, as both nations continue to share expertise in the face of shared security challenges.
