CANNIBAL CHESS
As normal but, except for kings, a piece can capture pieces from its own side. Doing so increases the capturing piece's standard valuation by an amount equal to the s.v. of the captured piece. When its s.v. is = or > that of a more valued piece it can become that piece.

Chess All the Way Down
Start a regular game of chess. Whenever a player would capture a piece, instead play a separate game of chess to decide the fate of the pieces involved; winner keeps their piece, loser removes theirs. Continue play as normal until the next capture, repeat. #ChessVariants

CO-CONSUL CHESS
Each color's queen actually acts as a king for all purposes. However, the first time a color has a king or queen placed in checkmate, it is actually removed from the game. The second piece must then also be placed in checkmate for that color to lose the game.

DRAGOON CHESS
If a knight and pawn of the same color are adjacent, as a move, the pawn can move into the knight's space. They become one piece able to move as either piece. As a move, the pawn can 'dismount' into any adjacent square. The pawn and knight then move normally as 2 pieces.
