I'm excited to tell you that medieval knights DID sometimes participate in tournaments that involved play-acting/reenacting stories of chivalric romance. Society must always have Pro Wrestling.

In any sufficiently large body of water, there is The Lady, offering boons and blades to those that would hunt the fae in her name. Her Fae Knights grow more dashing, gallant, and chivalric, though the Paladin Order is extremely suspicious of this pond-tart’s motives.

I am reasonably confident this is *not the reason it looks like that, but nevertheless… I like the idea that medieval armorers gave all their chivalric clients the space to grow a potbelly if they wanted to
