Little Green elf-cups on a stick. Their bright teal colour is very striking but they're tiny! I have been finding plenty of Chlorociboria aeruginascens fungi staining pieces of wood turquoise but it was a thrill to find the actual fruiting bodies

🌊🍄 As we celebrate World Rivers Day, we're reflecting on some of the wonderful wildlife discoveries made by volunteers at Forelacka-Camcor Wood in recent weeks -Green Elfcup (Chlorociboria spp.). The mighty river Camcor gave rise to this ancient alluvial woodland. We're celebrating both today

The world always has something new to learn about.

Chlorociboria aeruginascens - the fungus that produces Green Elf Cups but more commonly stains wood a bright turquoise or verdigris green which was prized by woodworkers creating colourful inlays.
These pieces are perhaps alder, down by a stream. I'l have to keep an eye out for possible elf cups!

The fruiting bodies of that fungus that stains wood teal. These are suspected to be Chlorociboria aeruginascens, green elfcup. Despite their vibrancy, they're quite tiny and easy to miss if one isn't searching for them. (These close-up shots don't give a good sense of scale.) #FungiFriends 🌿

Possibly my last #MushroomMonday for a while as I can't get afield for a few weeks, as the season winds down. But stunning #fungi from last week's #FungiFriday walk here in #Tasmania, including one of our less frequently encountered species, the "green whiskers"! #FungiFriends #nature #Australia

Oh, hey, Alaska. Didn’t pick the best week of the year to spend in Kachemak Bay, but them’s the weather breaks sometimes, and there was still (mostly wet and windy) beauty to be found. My elderly canine pal finds his life’s truest calling as a yurt dog every year. #AlaskaSky 💨🤩🌧️❤️

This cotton fabric was inoculated with Dyer's Polypore showing up as the orange brown patterns then washed and dried and re-inoculated with Chlorociboria, the cyan patterns.

Chlorociboria grown on fabric, this is how it looks dried. The pareidolia is strong with this process.
