For around 1400 years, Christmas was a time of extreme revelry and chaotic festivities; a time of ‘misrule’ in a world where social norms were suspended. Wearing our paper crowns for dinner is the closest we get today, but it is a truly ancient tradition! Merry Christmas!

Merry Xmas! For 100s of years, Christmas was a time of revelry and chaos, where social norms were actively cast aside. Today, the paper crowns we wear for Xmas dinner remind us of a time when we could all embrace this 'misrule' - the servants being served by the 'upper classes'.

🎄✨ Christmas isn’t always cozy. Sometimes it’s witches, demons, porridge for 500 people, and fried chicken buckets.

And as promised yesterday, here is the 16th creature of the #SillyBestiary and second Christmas card of the pack, with the infamous Krampus !
To say my family was confused is a bit of an understatement.

Digital vector art of Krampus, the Christmas Devil and Santa/ Saint Nicholas' assistant. He is shown as a red skinned and black furred devil, with long curving horns in a sideview. He has a very happy smile, although it is bordered with lots of fangs and a long pointy red tongue. He as big eyes, round with a tiny red pupil, goat ear with a golden ring and is carrying a pannier on his back. He is holding a chain on his shoulder and birch rods in his left hand. The background is a snow plains in gradients of greyish blue, buth there is a christmas wreath behind Krampus, made of dark wood and a red ribbon, with branches pointing on the top, covered in snow.
