I rescued a little black dog with a turtle tattoo on her belly, like the Chumash turtle. There was a problem with the stitches from her surgery. I called the shelter's vet, then told her about the tattoo. She laughed, "I did that" but not why. So she is Chumash or Cree and very, very old now.

Chumash Casino Resort Launches Annual Project Pink Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Chumash Casino Resort launched its annual Project Pink campaign Oct. 1 in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, raising funds for a local nonprofit through the sale of pink-themed sweets, snacks and beverages throughout the resort’s restaurants and eateries. A portion of this year’s proceeds, along with a dollar-for-dollar matching grant from the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation, will be donated to the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Santa Barbara (BCRC). “Project Pink is a powerful example of how a simple act, like purchasing a dessert or drink, can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life,” said Kenneth Kahn, Tribal Chairman of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians.

There are natural tar seeps here, unrelated to any oil spill. The city of Carpinteria just north of Ventura is so-named because the Spanish missionaries found it used by Chumash Indians to build boats, using the natural tar (still seen today) as sealant.

An Oak Tree a Day
From the size of the dropped trunk, this tree has most likely seen decades if not more than a century of changes from the Chumash to the ranchers to the weekend bicyclists & their little bells. Waiting to see the next generation & not giving up. California #nativePlants #nature

She is right this country belongs to Muscogee, Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Iroquois, Haudenosaunee, Yokuts, Chumash, Chinook, Hopi, Zuni and many others. Others can pack up & go back ... actually no. Nobody wants them anymore.

First of all, mazal tov, this is amazing (and kind of mind-boggling that it hasn't already been done, when I think about it). Second, could you share a page or two of what the actual text of the chumash portion looks like?

My middle schooler also dislikes the Talmud, but that is purely because his Chumash teacher is both amazing and biased, and the bias is rubbing off

In the Christian diaspora, Christians do **not** dance with the Christian Chumash. That custom is only practiced in Medinat Vatican, where it lasts two days and they dance with the Pope, who is like the chief Christian rabbi.

We live in traditional Chumash land. Acorns are plentiful. But have you seen the work involved in getting the meat out, mashed, boiled, etc.

All to make a pasty gruel.
