I thought so much of City 17 that I elected to establish my Administration here, in the Citadel so thoughtfully provided by Our Benefactors in the abundance movement. This type of dense, walkable urbanism with mixed use data centers was illegal before they came into the city.

I love Kingpin: Life of Crime and asked him about working on it when he lived in LA. The funniest part is he reckoned it was why Valve hired him. Because it was one of the few FPS games set in a contemporary urban environment. Without Kingpin we may not have gotten City17. Which is hilarious.
Didn't know he had a hand in Kingpin, but that totally makes sense!

I tend to prefer the second Dishonored (the one he didn't art direct) but this HL2 work, it's still so unique ! Last week we were still speaking about city17 in a meeting at work, that tells a lot about how major it was.

Shocked and saddened to hear about the death of Viktor Antonov. I met Viktor in 2013 when I invited him to speak at BAF about his incredible work creating City17 in Half-Life 2 and Dunwall in Dishonored. A sweet and eccentric creator, who discussed his love of "the spaces between buildings". RIP.
