Learning actual cladistic taxonomy on Wikipedia blew my mind. Really it remains a jumble as I keep learning of new betrayals

We are fish

This is a good reminder that "fish" is an artificial term with practical use, but no actual cladistic validity. After all, humans should be classified as fish, too.
If you ever wondered why visible light is those particular wavelengths, it's because life evolved to see in the narrow range where water is transparent

That’s one thing we did at the Canterbury Tales Project: used software to track spelling variants and create genealogies of manuscripts that could be tied to locations using cladistic analysis (evolutionary biology shit)

Andrewsarchus once though to have been a mesonychid of large size, it passed through varied cladistic revisions that changed radically the way it was reconstructed, now it is the only member of its own family, Andrewsarchidae most close relative to entelodonts.

The librarian failed his cladistic phylogeny class. All apes are monkeys. Just as much as they are primates, mammals, tetrapods, or vertebrates.

Was hoping someone would be cladistic about this.

Chaucer used the word loppe for spider, this was a Germanic word used to refer to basically all small insects because people didn't know about cladistic taxonomy or genes yet.

Dreamed I was at a conference on Macintosh evolution, and @tetzoo.bsky.social raked me over coals for errors in my Quadra phylogenetic tree.

“Your cladistic treatment of the Quadra lineage is unsupported by the evidence.”

If you take a strictly cladistic view of "monkeys", then "you look like a monkey / you smell like one too" is true by definition

Diddy Kong aside, it's CRAZY that 25 out of the 97 species (circled in green) in my big Mario cladistic tree are playable in Mario Kart World so far. Sidestepper? DOLPHIN? So exciting. Let's hope they get it up to 97/97!

In a really stupid cladistic way which no one would ever actually use because see prior, all mammals are lobe finned fish. So are all amphibians, reptiles, and birds for that matter.
